That is from a post from the tech board. A lot of them seem not only offended but confused by it. LOL. They are so sad, but if I lived in Ruston I would probably be sad too. (No offense dad). But honestly, when people around the country think of Louisiana, they think of Cajuns, good food, fun atmosphere, music, swamps, and friendly people. These are all things we have not only in Acadiana, but in Lafayette. So it therefore makes sense for us attempt to assert the term. And we are not worried about being the "flagship" of the Louisiana system, but academically we are leaders. And I guess tech is supposed to have a good engineering department, good for them. Our petroleum engineering department just won best student chapter in in the world, so I guess we aren't so bad ourselves. Basically, we have what others wish they had, so they try to run us over the coals on the few things we are lacking. Only where we are proficient, we don't try to hold others down, we cheer for our collegiate peers to be successful. It is sad there isn't more cooperation in this state. I guess I am just as confused by their inflated sense of self as they are of Louisiana.
    Fin _
No offense taken. I was just born in Ruston. Didn't live there for very long. Of course, my dad did play football there (back when THEY went by a different name - Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, for those Techsters who howl about us changing our name!). So I do have a soft spot in my heart for Tech and cheer for them except when they play us.

I don't get their worries/fears about us trying to take over the UL System as "flagship." I've never heard that discussed as even a dream/goal of ours by anyone at UL. I guess that is just Bulldog paranoia. BTW, I thought you were supposed to be in Florida on a boat right now. Did that fall through or are you just finished?

Default Fenroy's name help a bowl bid?

Does anyone think this may have some part in us being invited to a bowl? He entered an elite fraternity this year and may be a marketing tool for the bowl.

I was thinking along those same lines yesterday. It "should" help IMHO.

Jay has stated that the bowls care about 2 things:

    1. Ticket Sales
    2. TV ratings

    In that order.

Fenroy's accomplishments may be icing on the cake, but the "cake" here will be our fans' willingness to travel and show up in force.

Both would go up with people wanting to see Fenroy play whether it be in person or on tv.

But if it's between two teams that would concievably bring similar ticket sales and tv ratings I would think Tyrell's acomplishments may start to become a factor.....

You would think so. Most people in the country have not seen him play; and he entered elite company this year. That could be a good promotional ploy to get viewers to watch. The network could really run with that (pun intended!)
