Thread: 2008 Bowl Season Louisiana Snubbed by Indi Bowl

  1. UL Football 2008 Bowl Season Louisiana Snubbed by Indi Bowl

The Ragin' Cajuns can become bowl eligible with a win Wednesday vs. Middle Tennessee State. If they get the victory, several projections have UL going to the Independence Bowl vs. Louisiana Tech.

Even though they have a secondary tie-in with the Sun Belt, I-Bowl officials say they could look elsewhere.

I-Bowl spokesperson Patrick Meehan says the game is only obligated to take a seven-win Sun Belt team if one's available. They can pass on a six-win team, which UL would be if they beat MTSU.

Like i always said, Until we Quit playing the "Rent -A-Loss" Games, we will always put ourselves into this situation. with Nebraska & LSU on the schedule for next year, we will see the same thing happen. Let's find the 1.2 Million ,
and build a winning tradition, Period !

Troy played these games too, and they're going to be 8-4.

Yeah, but playing those games to finance the Athletic dept has also come at a cost. Fortunately, somebody implemented a rule that limited the number of rent-a-slaughters a team could play each season. One year Troy played more SEC away games than most of the SEC teams.

    Please read carefully.

NOBODY in the SBC plays fewer "rent-a-loss" games than we do.

The fact that we are not building a winning tradition has absolutely nothing to do with the non-conference schedule. Nothing.

Default Where we stand as of Dec. 4th

The big games for the Cajuns are:

Tonight: Louisville (5-6) at Rutgers (6-5)

If Louisville wins, they are bowl eligible and I think that if a spot is open in Papa John's, they'll get gobbled up in a New York Minute. That creates a domino effect with other bowls and it means that another at-large spot that could go to the Cajuns is gone. The Texas Bowl would also be interested in Louisville. Rutgers will probably be the Big East rep in Birmingham if they win. This is a VERY important game. We REALLY need for Rutgers to win.

Saturday: Arkansas State (6-5) at Troy (7-4)
Troy needs to win this game. Period

Notre Dame: The Independence wants them. The Texas Bowl wants them. Hell, everyone with an opening wants them. But Notre Dame may not want those that are open. I don't see Notre Dame jumping to play Rice or Louisiana Tech. They are trying to worm their way into a more prestigious bowl. If they are successful in doing so, then someone else may fall to Shreveport or Houston. My guess (just a guess) is that if they can't get to a bowl where they'd play a BCS school, that they will decline an invitation. That's UL's best scenario.

    Arizona State (5-6) at Arizona.
Arizona needs to win. This isn't as big a deal as the others, since they'd be playing out west somewhere (Hawai'i maybe?), but it still would leave someone from the MAC or possibly the Sun Belt out in the cold.

If all of those things fall into place, we have an excellent chance to be somewhere. But I think the first two have to go our way.

I'll be pulling for Rutgers big time tonight.

"The fact that we are not building a winning tradition has absolutely nothing to do with the non-conference schedule. Nothing."

There must be something your eyes affecting your vision. Maybe, cataracts or glaucoma so have them checked out. My old eyes tell me we are building a winning tradition and I saw plenty of evidence of it this season - on a trip I made up to WarHoaxstertown all the way through last night's game against Middle.

Despite the avalanche of injuries we suffered, the 2008 season turned out to be sweet. And, best of all, it may not be done yet.

I'm already anticipating a strong 2009 signing class on top of last year's and plenty more good news on upgrades in the program and facilities. If I do not see fellow Cajun football fans before then, I will see you at the Feb 3rd Signing Bash.
