It's a joke that the Sun Belt can only manage 1 lousy primary bowl tie-in, and this is absolutely unacceptable. This is why we are in the fix we are in. It's a shame that we're only guaranteed one bowl game per year.
On another note: geaux troy! An ASU win means we have no shot at an at-large.
You ever look at the NCAA bowl revenue reports? The Sun Belt comes out ahead of the MAC and CUSA. Know why? Because bowl games are a money losing proposition outside the BCS and a handful of other bowls.
CUSA and MAC take their NCAA revenue and buy bowl ties. I'd love to complain about not having another primary tie-in but my school hasn't earned an at-large berth to the Dance or won a game in the Dance to bring in the money to pay for that the way schools in the MAC and CUSA have done so I don't complain about it.
Last year we finally earned some money but the bowls we'd like to tie to are contracted up through next year. Not until those deals expire will we have a shot at spending our money to buy bowl games.
If ASU gets left out, I'm not complaining. We botched a chance to keep Memphis out. ASU and the Cajuns botched their chances to keep USM from getting eligible. Middle blew their chance to keep Kentucky from getting eligible and if Louisville beat Rutgers, Middle blew their chance to keep Louisville out.
We didn't botch it at USM. The game was never near close enough for UL to botch it. We possibly botched at shot at Illinois. Dez having the ball stripped from his hands and returned for a TD by Illinois in a 20-17 loss appears to qualify. Stuff happens sometimes (see LaState vs Arkansas or LaTex vs Nevada).
I have no way of knowing how many tickets we'd buy to the Independence Bowl (soon to be known as the bail out bowl) but I'm guessing in the neighborhood of 5-7K.
Which 7-5 program out there is going to match those numbers this season in good ole Shreveport La. just after Christmas?
This is getting more depressing by the minute....dangit I want a bowl game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
