Looks like it's going to be LaTech vs. Cajuns or LaTech vs. stAte, based on the iron-clad Indy Bowl contract that Wright Waters has in his office. _

    Not so fast, my friend.

Yep. NCAA reviewing the contract. Should know something by this evening.

Conference call at 4pm today with WW.

We may not have any "secondary" tie-ins if NCAA and BCS, or ESPN, find a loophole.

They will screw the "little man" if they can.

Why not go in and redo the contract if the wording is vague? We've had since the summer to do that.

What are you trying to say, BOP? "Ironclad" is a bit rusty?

How ironic if the Sun Belt's own contract ends up cutting out its own bowl eligable teams.

jmo: Figure out a way to let Troy opt out of NOB before Birmingham extends its offer to someone else.

Per my source in the NCAA offices in Indianapolis . . .

Dennis Poppe, the NCAA's Managing Director for Football & Baseball, reviewed the contracts between the Sun Belt Conference and the three bowls; Independence Bowl, PapaJohns.com Bowl and St. Petersburg Bowl. After reviewing the contracts he has ruled in the SBC's favor and decided the agreements are valid and binding regardless of whether Sun Belt teams are 6-6 or 7-5.

If there are no 7-5 teams in the country available to fill the Indy Bowl slot then the Independence Bowl is REQUIRED to offer the open spot to a 6-6 Sun Belt Conference team. Same goes for the PapaJohns.com and St. Petersburg bowls. The only way a 6-6 SBC team can be denied playing in one of these bowls is if if the original conferences contracted by the bowls provide eligible (6-6 or better) teams to fulfill the contracts, or one of those slots are filled by a 7-5 or higher team from all at-large teams in the country.

If verified, that would be huge for the Sunbelt! I hope your source is correct. Thanks for the info.

I seriously like his new information from gatadotcom. If Troy beats ASU, I think Troy is getting screwed to be forced into the NO Bowl, but that is the "risk" (chuckle) we all take being in the SBC. If they were 12-0, this deal would still require them to represent the SBC in the NO Bowl.

I believe that once we beat MT, and get into one of these other bowls... we work out a swap with Troy (snicker). We split the revenue between the two, they go to the more "prestigious" bowl... and we all head down to New Orleans for the UL party.

As someone (?) once said, "not so fast, my friend!" I don't think we'll get a swap for the NOLA Bowl, if we get in at all. I think Troy (or ASU) is locked into that since no one else can be a 7 win team. If this news is true, I think there is a chance that the other 3 bowl eligible teams will get into the 3 "secondary" tie bowls. That is NOT a lock, but a supposition on my part. And it supposes that there are no second 7+ win teams available for those bowls. But that is certainly good news about the SBC priority, if true.

Is gatadotcom a man of his word?

If true, great news, esp. after we beat the Cajuns

At any rate, best of luck to you guys tomorrow. If we lose, I would hope it would be to my Cajun friends !
