Thread: So if we win we are in?

  1. Default Re: So if we win we are in?

Indy Bowl officials were quoted on two Shreveport news stations last night saying they would NOT select a Sun Belt team this year. According to the report, it'll be LA Tech vs. either NC State, Clemson, Memphis or Southern Miss.

if we were to get into one of the bowls, would we find out Thursday, or would it most likely be around the beginning of next week?

I think it would be early next week, as the bowl people would need to wait on the Ark St. Troy game.

I thought they had to take a 6-6 Sunbelt team over a 6-6 team from another conference. I know that they can take any other 7+ win team over a 6-6 SBC team. Guess they don't feel too much "prestige" for the game if it is an old "Tech-USL" game (too local). I think they are dying to take someone else before us, even if we might bring a larger group than NC State (probably) or the other teams (maybe). We probably wouldn't bring more than Clemson. Not so sure how Memphis and USM would travel to Shreveport (of course one of them will be in New Orleans and will likely bring more to that game).

It cannot be NC State, Clemson, Memphis, or Southern Miss.

Per Wright Waters' conference call, no 6-6 team can trump the Belt. Says the I-Bowl contract is iron-clad.

The Shreveport media is dead wrong.

    Waters sitting pretty right now.

The Indy/Papa/St. Petersburg don't have to take a 6-6 belt team. The secondary tie-ins only count for a 7 win belt team.

    Right...?

    *sigh* This is confusing

You are correct. Unless LaTech gets a 7-5 or better at-large to come to Shreveport, looks like the Cajuns are going to the Indy if they beat MT.

Another scenario would be Boise vs. Ball State, but that seems unlikely.

Looks like it's going to be LaTech vs. Cajuns or LaTech vs. stAte, based on the iron-clad Indy Bowl contract that Wright Waters has in his office.

Sorry KA, but I don't have much faith in this Wright Waters "iron-clad" contract of which you speak. My confidence in him is sort of "lacking", if you know what I mean.

If you read the Troy board they are not very thrilled to be going to New Orleans. We would probably have a record crowd for the NOLA bowl. Why not let the teams decide where it would be best for them and the league? With our luck we will probably make all this discussion pointless Wednesday.

I hope WW is in daily contact with all 3 of the bowls to which the SBC has a "secondary" tie-in. I am curious if the I-Bowl contract is different than the other two bowls'. I would find it very interesting if they are not essentially the same.

NCAA rules state we can't. We have one bowl slot, and it must be filled by a 7-5 team at least (if there is one). If Troy wins Saturday, they are the only belt team with those credentials.

What about this crazy scenario... Since Troy wants to go to the Pizza Bowl (understandably so), wouldn't it be smart of them to drop the final game and let ASU win? This would allow ASU to go to NO, and Troy to go to Birmingham.

I know it's doubtful, since no coach in their right mind would pass up an outright conference championship (and an 8-4 season). But an interesting conspiracy theory nonetheless!
