Thread: Talk to me about the new UL Scoreboard!

  1. Default Talk to me about the new UL Scoreboard!

So... a little birdie told me that the Ragin' Cajuns are now joining the Sun Belt Arms race and getting a new Scoreboard or Video board.

Arkansas State and Georgia Southern are both nearly done with their new scoreboards. ASU's is slightly larger, from what I've heard, than Georgia Southern (which is nearly the width of a Semi + trailer).

If you follow me on Twitter, I tweeted a link to the new GS Eagles Scoreboard (See https://twitter.com/BearlyDoug/statu...38949767892992) and posted a rather interesting tidbit from GS Eagles School President regarding the north side of Paulson Stadium seating (newest update on TwoCentsRadio.net).

So... tell me about your new scoreboard/video board, please.

How come everyone has to say ASU's is slightly larger? I mean, does a few extra inches really matter that much? It's all in how you use it. A team can have a big scoreboard, but sometimes it looks awkward because it is too big. IMO it shouldn't be about size, it should be about the overall graphics package.

With embedded video, screens can never be too big.

You can embed the Congress street scene behind the board rendering it invisible.

    jk

You can embed vertical advertising on the edges making the screen a lot smaller.

You can have a live corner of the screen with the BullGators on campus. We can watch them do death rolls every time UL scores.

ASU's video board is 32ft tall by 50ft wide which is 1600 sf while UL's video board is 30ft tall and 54ft wide which is 1620 sf, so UL's is actually 20 sf bigger which isn't much when you talking about something that big. I would prefer the wider one than a taller one.

Texas A&M got the largest display in the land, 47ft tall by 163ft wide in the South endzone and 2 auxiliary ones in each corner of the North endzone each 36ft tall by 54ft wide. It seems it would be hard to watch the game with all that technology staring you in the face.

It's the battle of the scoreboard arms race. It's the first time I'm hearing people comparing their scoreboards.

Actually, I've been trying to figure that out myself. Our board shows as 30x54 (1620 sqft) and ASU's was announced as 32x50 (1600 sqft). My only guess was they added in an fixed digit auxilliary board for score/time/TO's and other stats, but that portion isn't an HD screen.

ASU is also installing 4 fixed digit displays, each 8ft by 32ft that will be placed at each end of the field and in each locker room. It will show time, score, TO's remaining, and other stats which isn't HD displays

I think UL will add as they see the need with the stadium expansion
