Thread: Rate the job Scott Farmer is doing as UL AD

I gave him an 8. UL seems to be (Slowly!) putting people in place that are getting the job done. Remember folks, we have very little history of progressing forward in athletics, so every year is a new and unexpected challenge for those pushing us forward. Just think if you came into this Admin from another admin and it was light years behind where you were.........People in power do not like a lot of change at once. Piece by piece, stone by stone we (fans, supporters, players, moms/dads, and admin) will build OUR own winning history, which thankfully started a couple of years back!

right now based on the votes we have him at a 6.59 average. I gave him a 6 by the way.

If we were in a new conference it would be hard not to say a 9 or 10. But given that that is the one area where he could have shined without anyone saying it was because of what the coaches did alone, and he missed, I have him at a 7 right now.

I think a 7 is about right. Hard to argue with the success of our programs under his watch

My thoughts exactly. While we are not where we want to be and it's no mystery that we've dropped the ball regarding the conference and the name debacle, the success of acquiring new and maintaining good existing coaches has been a huge factor in our success. The fact is that many of us will never be fully satisfied with Farmer's performance until we get out of the Sun Belt.

Anything lower than a 5 and you people will never be happy. Guy has had some rough patches. He may not completely get it yet. You can't argue with the success our athletics are having and he is in charge of athletics.

Edit: I gave a 7. Still room for improvement.

What is he gonna do with the coaches success is the question. Scott farmer doesn't run stadiums at 5am, he doesn't play pickup ball all summer, he didn't go through fall ball, he didn't buy in to what the coaches were selling. He has very little to do with with actual on field success. The coaches have given him what he needs to do a better job, will he?

Does the CEO pull orders in the warehouse? Come on. He's putting the right people in place. That's his job. There is room for improvement, but he's been a part of where we are at, whether you like it or not.

I went with a 5, almost 6. My reasoning: he's got two parts to his job. The first part is hiring the right coaches. At that, he's earned a 9 or 10. The second part of his job is the public stuff; glad-handing, fund raising, selling our university to the local and national public and other conferences. At that, he's earned a 1 or 2. I also had to factor in a couple of the public missteps like the handling of softball last year and the delay in creating/unveiling the Master Plan and subsequent funding issues and weigh them against the existence and implementation of the Master Plan. I averaged the scores and came up with the cumulative.

If we went 1-11 in football, what would you be saying to those that blame farmer? He is no more personally responsible for the success just like he wouldn't be personally responsible for teams failure. I personally think it's a stupid question. What farmer does with the most successful athletic year ever is how he should be judged, not what all those coaches and players did in the early freezing morning and scorching hot afternoons to achieve those successes. The coaches are the individual CEO's...they put the process together. Does robe pitch or bat? Does HUD play qb? Does mike? No, but they are the ones with the " business model" not farmer.

I would also wait to see how farmer does on the hiring when one of these coaches leave. David walker was heavily involved in both the hiring if HUD and marlin.
