Great thread, tough question. All of the coaches deserve praise, no doubt. I love what Coach Hud is doing and the direction he has our football program going. I'm ecstatic that Coach Marlin brought the basketball team back to a respectable level, a truly tough task. Coach Mike excels and doesn't get enough credit for keeping the softball team as one of the top programs in the nation. What stands out for me is Coach Robichaux, his staff and the players getting the no. 1 ranking in the country and maintaining it. This accomplishment is huge, it's really amazing how he was not only able to to reach it, but keep that level of play going. I'm not normally a big baseball fan, but this team captured my attention and brought tremendous pride to me, for my University and it's students.
My vote is: Coach Robichaux
Geaux Cajuns!
Has the National Coach of the Year been announced for softball? It should be Mike, but probably won't be. I can't see any way in the world that Tony is not COY in baseball. And in my earlier post, I said its crazy that Hud could be third at the school. Well, Tony being the national COY, and in my opinion, Mike being the UL COY...well that pretty much tells you how great this athletic year has been. Unbelievable.
Talk about doing more with less? Who has a budget lower than Coach Mazeitis? One win shy of twenty...next to last in preseason polls....lost to Conference Champions 3-1 sets by a total of 12 pts. I give her a big plus on the year..
Coach Robe and MIke.. done more with less.. Football whih drives the bus no doubt had chance to grab conference champ title but blew it, Robe and MIke brought it home single handed .. Coach whitt because the bogey man is afraid of him
Coach Mike Lotief
Coach Mike Lotief, with Coach Marlin coming in a close 2nd. IMHO
I have to go with Marlin.
Softball has had sustained success over a longer period of time, so while the WCWS was unexpected this year, it certainly wasn't a shock when they made it (They hosted the Super Regional, so it is not like they were a Cinderella by any means).
Basketball though, that is a different story. What Marlin has done with that team has been nothing short of HUD-esque. I feel like Marlin is on the verge of bringing back Louisiana basketball to the prominence it once had in the community.
Marlin
Jeffrey
Robe
Lotief
In that order
Since Tony is going to be NCAA Coach of the year in baseball, it'd be ridiculous to not have him be UL's coach of the year. Or we'd start to vote like the Sun Belt...
My question is there a wrong answer?
