Is this true? How'd they get the money? Did they make each player's parent take up a second job and donate all income? (Being sarcastic, female sports get the short end). I hope the facility gets an upgrade. They've earned it. While they're at it take the current name: Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajuns Softball Park (that's 8 words) and shorten it to LAMSON PARK, easy! This community and state can't even decide on what to call our Univerisy much less a softball park...it's wayyyy to long. _

You must be one of the biggest grouches on this board. The name that the poster was referring to was the name of the softball park not the name of the school.

The monies have been procured from the indoor facility student fee that has been accumulating for some time. The monies from the indoor facility will pay for the expansion for softball and the track and field house as well! There are donors involved in the
locker room factor as well for softball! This is going to happen very soon!

Here is the latest. They are having a meeting of approval in August. If approved they will start on the softball field hoping to have it completed for 2010 season. If it is not finish the fans will sit in bleachers in the outfield untill completed.(not good at all). I pay over $500 for box seats. An architect/construction company came up with a plan for the baseball field at $28,000,000.00. I assume that was building new form ground up. Needless to say that was thrown out. Scott Farmer is talking to people in New Iberia this week. About what is a mystery. Money I assume. They hope to start on baseball after softball and track is completed. The softball field will be great from what I saw. Now the baseball field is another thing. It was mention if Robichaux might be getting a little upset with all the delays. I say when his contract is up 2012 and nothing is done and his kid is ready for D1 baseball and the field and stands look the same. Well you get what I mean....

I believe the vote is set for august 26 (or sometime around then) to proceed with the upgrades. Once approved, the process should begin shortly after.

The key words here are "Process should begin shortly". Is hiring an architect part of the process? Does this "idea" have to be approved, then they will hire an architect and an engineer? Has an architect and an engineer been hired? Then after months of consulting, the bids will go out? OMG, it will be 2013 before softball sees a new stadium.

Does this surprise you? When they talk about new buildings at UL, take the latest possible starting date you can imagine and add 3 years to it. That's when you will see the bulldozers.
