Thread: Lost without the Head...

UL Basketball Lost without the Head...

In making my point before the season started, and I truly hate to say I told you so, but without Randell Daigle at the point guard position and our leading scorer Chris Gradnigo the Cajuns will struggle. I'm personally glad that Courtney Wallace is back. Batiste is just not ready. Hopefully we can salvage a couple of wins before we get everyone back.

But the point I was trying to make is without a good point guard, a good talented team will be waisted. I was reading in the paper today and Coach Lee is thinking of starting a Walk-on tonight. Wow. I knew Willie wasn't D-1 material but Ryan McCoy to the bench. Hopefully Randell can come back at the beginning of the year.

I hate to say this but it looks like we are going to have to wait until next year. Hopefully we will have a full year of healthy players. But I really don't see to many positives this season. Again, I really truly hope they prove me wrong. But the players that are getting minutes are players that should be getting junk minutes or rest from the starters minutes.

Some players are just not capable of playing big time minutes. We have to many injuries and our role players are playing way to much.

You are right on the money. Please continue your analysis weekly as I have been having difficulty figuring out this team. A lot of talent, but no wins.

What do you think of Coach Lee?

If the season continues the way it's going, Coach Lee may not be around to see "next year."

Well I really didn't think Lee was on the hot seat. But a home lost to Lamar? And tonight it doesn't get easier. Some guys really need to step it up. Last year's excuse was that they were young and inexperienced, but now with a year on their side and they look worst. Could be Coaching, but about 3 years ago the rumor was that LeBato was the next guy in line.

IMO, we need to do what UAB did and get a Mike Davis type coach. I know I'll get bashed for this one but Ralph Sampson is still out their. Not to many big time programs would ever give him another shot and he sure could recruit us some good talent with our team in the next couple of years.

I really don't know the number of scholly's we will have after next year but, Sampson would bring in some pretty good names. And he is a proven winner.

What type of contribution do you see Adeife and Roberson making. I see Adeife helping on defense and Roberson on offense. Will they make enough of a difference to help us do well in league play is a question I can't answer. Games prior to then are just to get ready for that. It turns out those guys should become eligible around Dec. 15th which is the date of our first conference game against ULM. Your point is well taken that without Daigle at point, these guys may not be enough.

    Did you mean Kelvin Sampson?

Puffy, I would think you speaking of Kelvin Sampson, if so the NCAA laid down the law today, he won't coach college ball for the next 5 years.

I have been a big supporter of Lee, but i'm starting to wonder if he has what it takes too. Speaking of the walk ons, why haven't they been in uniform for the first few games? Seems like with the injuries they should at least be out there for emergencies.

First of all, its Kelvin Sampson and he's banned for 5 years of coaching so I don't think that is what we need to bring to this university especially when its ironic to be banned for recruiting violations.

Second, Lee will be on the hotseat. If its not for his losses then its for the way this team has lost in the last three games. To lose by 30 to Utah Valley and to lose like that to Lamar is rediculous. I've been the biggest Lee guy since I liked the discipline he brought to this team but he is obviously not a D-1 coach. I don't care if this team wins 20 games this year. I feel like I know the game pretty well and he does not have what it takes to manage a game nor adjust during the game to matchups and playcalling. We have NO organized offense out there whatsoever. We have no set motion offense that isolates any of our scorers nor gets the ball to Barr at the post. Even when matched up against much smaller teams like Lamar, he did nothing to get the ball down low and when they did, we had great results.

The fact that we had no point guard on the court in the final minutes against Tech shows me he doesn't know how to manage the game at crucial times.

Daigle is one of my favorite players and his assist/TO ratio was decent last year but I think he is still a SG and would do well to play the 2 more than the 1. We definitely miss him out there but we need a leader more than anything. Somebody that's going to huddle these guys and direct them where to go because we obviously don't have that.

I did mean Kelvin Sampson and if you look at the time I wrote it, how ironic that he was banned today. LOL. And Randell is a short 2 guard. But he is deadly at the top of the key. It was really good to see the Cajuns pull out a win at home. Tyren is looking really good. He is really surprising me a whole lot. And what a block by Colby.

And back to Lee. He should have at least two more years at UL. Then after this class leaves, then they will decide. I mean you can't blame him for injuries, but bad coaching is bad coaching. No way they should be 1-3. Point blank

Coach Lee is currently in Year 1 of a two year contract. His contract expires after next season. By the way, I am still interested in your opinion of what type of contribution we can expect from the two UNLV transfers.
