When UL's football team knocked off Florida International by a 49-20 margin on Nov. 1, enthusiasm hit at an all-time high for the program.
With four games left in the regular season, the Cajuns sat atop the Sun Belt standings at 4-0 following Troy's 31-30 loss to ULM. Only one victory separated them from becoming bowl eligible for the third time in four years. There was talk of the team, riding a four-game winning streak, earning its first outright conference crown and bowl berth in 38 years.
That was then.
