Turning down Larry Blakeney in 1998

Turning down Rich Rodriguez in 1998

Can we find someone who can win a few games that count. Who did we beat this year and what are there combined records!! This bowl eligible BS for 2 out the last 3 seasons is garbage.

No way Authement was going to pay Leach and Rodriguez, or make the facility improvements.

Larry Blakeney's record speaks for itself.

Clint Conque won his first conference championship in the SLC this year. I don't care what he did as a assistant, he wasn't at the top of the list in 2001.

Rodriquez came and looked around and was not interested. He never wanted the job. It's not like he was offered it and turned it down. Blakeney was the one that was the dumb one. Nelson Schexnayder would have been a hero if he would have been allowed to do his job without that meddling moron Authement, Blanco and Dean Daniels who pushed the NAACP choice.

There is courting and then there is courting. He could have looked around without throwing his name in the mix. I don't think he was courted.

If I am not mistaken he was a humble Tulane assistant at the time.

Whats your point here Turbine? We could hire God and he could not win without more money! The guys on this list would not have won here if they were hired. Tulane has more money than we do, Troy spends more on football than we do, hell ULM spends more money on football than we do.

Until we pony up the dough then we will be no better than mediocre.

I'm sure you could go to any University and have some big names. Hindsight is 20/20. But still. We've had a President for the past 30 years who did little to nothing for athletics. We've got a President now that has stated his intention of making ahtletics, mainly football to be the face of the University. I'm sure there are things going on behind closed doors between Dr. Savoie, Scott Farmer, and David Walker to figure out the best avenue to take regarding head coaches for Football and basketball.

I had a friend (LSU fan) tell me saturday that you don't need money to have a good coach, at which point I told him, okay then lets trade athletic budgets for 10 years and see a progress report after the 10 years. I also told him that I would like to see how well the Tigers would do in the SEC with a $500,000 coach. They think the coaching stinks right now. The bottomline is that you get what you pay for. You can't pay 12K for a Toyota and expect it to drive like a Ferrari. There are exceptions every now and then but look at the BCS conferences. All of there coaches are paid. I'm not saying we need to throw millions at a coach because we can't. But we need to go out, and get a quality young coach who's got something to prove. If you look for a Bargain coach, that's exactly what you're going to get.
