With an Alabama win tommorow it looks very good for 2 Sun Belt teams and most likely 3 Sun Belt teams to get into bowl games. And dare I say it but if either Southern Miss or Memphis loses tommorow this will open the St. Pete bowl. The St. Pete, Pappajohns, and Independence bowl along with the New Orleans bowl will all be open and the Sun Belt will most likely have 4 teams bowl eligible with Troy, Ark. St., either Mid Tenn or UL, and either Fla Atl. or Fla Int. There may not be enough 7-5 teams to fulfill these bowls and by rule they must take a 6-6 Sun Belt team before any other 6-6 team. How awesome for the Belt if this plays out.
We would have as many bowls as Conference USA, and we would have opportunities to showcase the sunbelt. If 2 years ago we took a step forward with Troy winning in new Orleans and Middle going to a second bowl, and last year we kept pace as FAU won in New Orleans in a dominant fashion, we will be taking a giant leap forward by being in 4 bowls this year. I can't wait until next Wednesday now, I really want this game, and I think the team does too.
I want to beat MT because it is the next game we play. If it comes with a bowl... superb. And to anyone who wouldn't take the bowl... you need to read more and type less... and anyone who thinks that if we get a bowl, it would be "unearned"... you should also set raginpagin to "read-only"... you are clueless.
To say that the Cajuns wouldn't "deserve a bowl" if we get to 6-6, regardless of anything... is moronic. For decades, other conferences have gotten bowl tie-ins that get some of the most mediocre teams on earth into bowl games. One of the reasons some of these suckbutt teams still thrive is their association to the conference they are in, and making bowl games. We WANT a bowl... no matter what. We DESERVE a bowl... if they call us.
We NEED to get exposure... any exposure is better than none. Do you really believe staying at home, again, is a better recruiting argument than a 6-6 bowl berth? Hopefully... if you said "yes"... you've let your emotions cloud your thinking... otherwise... you just aren't very bright.
Geaux Cajuns! Beat MT!!!
1- We do not turn down bowls.
2- One fact about bowl participation is often overlooked, but it is a major factor in keeping the Have's from the Havenot's. Your team is allowed to continue practicing until the bowl game. The later in the year you play a bowl game the more practice you get. When you go to bowls on a regular basis the extra practice helps you build your program because the majority of your team comes back the next year with a headstart. Get It.
Update on the Sun Belt and additional bowl games.
The Good
1. Both Auburn and Colorado loses this weekend so that should leave both spots open in the Independence bowl because Big XII and SEC will not fulfill all their bowl tie ins.
2. With Alabama winning today it looks like a lock that the SEC will get 2 teams into BCS games so this will most likely open up the pappajohns bowl.
The Bad
1. Both Southern Miss and Memphis wins today so CUSA will fulfill all their bowl tie-ins so the St. Petersburg will not be open to the Sun Belt.
2. Nevada wins today and gets to 7 wins so they will take an open bowl before any 6-6 team. Thanks La Tech!
3. Clemson beat South Carolina so they got to 7 wins. This takes an open bowl away from an 6-6 SBC.
4. Ark St. wins tonight and has the potential to get to 7 wins with a win over Troy next week. In this scenario on open bowl would go to Ark. St. before another 6-6 SBC team such as the Cajuns. Although this would create a 3 way tie for the conference championship, the Cajuns would be the team left because of the SBC tie-breaker. Instead a Ark St. loss to Troy the Cajuns would be at worst 2nd.
Later tonight
1. Need Wake Forest to lose to Vandy. If they get to 7 wins the ACC will produce 9 teams that have 7 or more tie ins and they have 8 automatic tie-ins. This means that the ACC will grab 1 at large before a 6-6 SBC team.
2. Need Hawaii to lose to Washington St. With a win they will get to 7 wins and the WAC will produce 5 teams with 7 or more wins so they will grab 2 open bowls before a 6-6 SBC team.
3. Oregon St. needs to win. This may get the PAC 10 2 teams into the BCS and open one bowl if Arizona St. loses to Arizona next week.
4. Need Oklahoma to win tonight and this will most likely with a Big XII South championship win get 2 Big XII teams into the BCS game opening another Big XII bowl tie-in.
I just learned that Clemson has 2 D1AA wins this year and a D1 team is only allowed to count 1 win against a D1AA once every other year. So at best they only have 6 wins towards eligibility so this takes one of the ACC's 7 win teams out. This is good news for any team that finishes the season at 6-6.
This is exciting even if we're left out in the end like i suspect

Gives me something to do while I watch Oklahoma/Okla St. play tonight wh6-6ich should be a great game and I would not be surprised if St. pulls it out.
Oregon St. is getting blown out by Oregon as I figured. I listed earlier that this may hurt a 6-6 SBC team but what it does is instead of the PAC 10 getting 2 teams into BCS games it will most likely get 2 Big 10 teams as Ohio St. may sneak into it. In this case this would open up a Big 10 bowl game because they would not have enough bowl eligible teams to fulfill thier tie-ins.
So which is better for us? Lol
