UL - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis head coach Mark Jeffery announced his team’s 2009 schedule. The Cajuns have 19 dual matches set for the year; seven will be home duals taking place at Cajun Courts. The schedule boasts four ranked opponents, featuring a dual with #18 LSU in Baton Rouge, February 28.

UL will also face nationally ranked teams such as Florida Atlantic, UAB and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

“This is a well balanced schedule which gives our team the opportunity to become ranked inside the Top 35 Nationally,” said Jeffery. “To do this we would have to go somewhere in the vicinity of 20-3, 19-4 and win our conference.”

The Cajuns open up their dual portion of the season with three home duals in February. The first dual meet of the season will be Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. when the Cajuns host Grambling State University. The following Friday the Cajuns will host Southern University and Alcorn State in a double dual starting at 2 p.m.

The Cajuns will then pack their bags and head on the road for nearly a month as they travel all over Louisiana, along with stops in Florida and Mississippi. The first stop on the Cajuns three state road trip is a meeting with conference foe New Orleans on Saturday, February 14. Following a Tuesday afternoon dual with Nicholls State (Feb. 19), the team will travel to Orlando, Fla. for the first of two duals in the Sunshine State.

On Saturday, February 21, the team faces off against the University of Central Florida. On Sunday, February 22, the Cajuns will meet up with #74 Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at 11 a.m.

UL then returns to the state of Louisiana to meet up with #18 LSU February 28, in Baton Rouge at 1 p.m.

The Cajuns end their long road trip at Southern Miss, Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Cajuns will make their return to Cajun Courts on Wednesday, March 11 when they host Illinois State at 6 p.m. The Cajuns will host Troy the next day at 6 p.m.

Louisiana will travel to Birmingham, Ala., Friday, March 20 to face Samford followed by a match Saturday at 10 a.m. against #72 UAB.

Abilene Christian comes in Monday, March 23 for a dual meet at Cajun Courts. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.

At the end of March, the Cajuns travel to Texas for three dual matches in consecutive days. The Cajuns and DePaul will meet Friday, March 27 in San Antonio. The next day the opponent is Texas-San Antonio at the same location. The Texas retreat ends in Corpus Christi when the Cajuns do battle with #75 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday, March 29 at 10 a.m.

As the month of April begins the Cajuns will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to compete in the Sun Belt Shootout April 4th and 5th.

The Cajuns are set to face Lamar on Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in Beaumont, Texas, before ending their regular season at home against Texas Arlington at 10 a.m., April, 11.

The Cajuns will attempt to win their first Sun Belt Conference tournament championship since 2006 on April 17-19, in Denton, Texas.

“This team has the potential to have a very successful season after some great fall results,” Jeffery added, “I believe we are in the top Echelon of our conference with MTSU, Denver, FAU and Troy as the wild card team. From last year to this our team is twice as strong so anything short of a conference title will be disappointing for this team.”
