Louisiana-Lafayette?

Looks like our Athletic Department is blowing a golden opportunity to get our athletic teams known us Louisiana with all the sucess we are having this year.

Winning our 3rd straight Bowl game in football, an NCAA Tournament appearance in basketball, an NCAA Tournament appearance in Tennis, a Women's Softball College World Series appearance, and possible College World Series appearance by our Baseball team.

They are just letting the Nation to get to know us as Louisiana-Lafayette when it would be easy to have the Nation just call us Louisiana. It says Louisiana on all our uniforms. What does it take ESPN to refer to us as simply Louisiana.

I'm afraid that with our current sucess and us being constantly being referred to as Louisiana-Lafayette in every sport that that is the name the Nation will know us by and it is probably to late to change it now.

How much does it matter what name everyone else knows us by, as long as everyone else knows us. We are getting great national exposure. We have the number one ranked baseball team in the country. People are getting to know us for the absolute best reasons. Espn is going to call us what every they want but lets face it. They have been at our ballparks for softball and baseball for a month and if that isnt enough reason to be happy then you may be beyond helping.

The current SID is interim and will probably become permanent but has shown no signs of life on "LOUISIANA" usage.

The reason is probably two-fold, one because he is feeling his way around and two because he has had the busiest sports writing year in UL history with an under staffed Sports Information Department.

Turbine, the last SID didn't lose his job because of the use of Louisiana. And once he was told not to use UL again, he complied. I know some of you guys want to make some kind of martyr out of the guy, but he created more problems for this university in the long run. The current SID is using Louisiana in all stories, but he is not mocking ESPN or others in making the request.

CBS, Fox, and Sometimes the Anylst on ESPN use Louisiana and UL! Look at your Super Regional Ticket stub, Louisiana vs Ole Miss! For ever and a day, Ticket Master has UL-Lafayetted us or LA-Lafayetted us, now another battle in the NAME WAR has been won! We are reeling in the BIG FISH NAME--"LOUISIANA" work it, reel it in, give it some slack, BUT don't let the line break!!!

When your uniforms, logo, venue, say one thing and they call you another then it gets confusing to people out of state.

Our Logo says Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, uniforms say Louisiana, venue say Louisiana, then we get called Louisiana-Lafayette, it is confusing to people out of state. So all our sucess doesn't mean anything if people don't who we are because we are not consistent. The only name people from out of state recognize is Ragin Cajuns. I deal with the name thing alot in Idaho, especially since we are playing Boise State in football. I get asked if they are playing Louisiana or Louisiana-Lafayette.

I'm just saying we need to be consistent, whatever we call ourselves

Ben is a great guy and was a great player as Big Ben pitching for LSU and then in the Bigs. He will continue to call us Louisiana and UL or Ragin Cajuns as he is NOT a petty person, Geaux Big Ben!

Turbine, the last SID didn't lose his job because of the use of Louisiana.

Did not mean to make it sound like there was a correlation with him doing his "Sports Information" job and losing his job.

The SID the first half of the year is not here and his replacement is learning the ropes and has many other things to worry about at this point, was my point.

To your point, ESPN never once complied before, and wavered (if ever so slightly) afterwards, so I can't subscribe to a long run problem being created.
