Travis Bureau felt like he let the UL men's basketball team down in Saturday's season opener, missing an open 3-pointer in the closing seconds of a two-point loss to Louisiana Tech.
The sophomore guard came up big down the stretch on Tuesday against Lamar, scoring 22 of his career-high 24 points in the second half. But the Cajuns suffered a 78-68 loss after Cardinals guard Kenny Dawkins and Brandon McThay combined for 45 points at the Cajundome.
Dawkins, who scorched the nets for a game-high 29 points, did most of his damage at the free-throw line. The senior hit all 12 of his shots at the line. McThay added 16 points as Lamar (2-0) finished with only eight turnovers to win the first meeting between the programs since Dec. 14, 1999.
