Thread: Five Sun Belt teams on verge of becoming bowl eligible

  1. UL Football Five Sun Belt teams on verge of becoming bowl eligible

With three weeks left in the regular season, Troy remains the lone Sun Belt team to have already gained bowl eligibility with six victories. But five other teams are vying for the chance to play in a bowl game.

League co-leaders Troy and UL face off at 6 Saturday night in Alabama. The winner will earn at least a share of the conference title. The Cajuns need one more victory to become bowl eligible.

I might be wrong, but I thought UNT beat WKU on Nov. 1, just my 3.141 cents.

They may mean last year where UNT did beat ULM.

I don't know if any "bowl eligible" (at 6-6) teams in the SBC will make it this year. The championship looks like Trojans/Cajuns and one of them likely has to end up with 7+ wins and the NO bowl bid.

After that.a 6-6 team can't get into the pizza or indy bowls right?

It was discussed the other day. This is the pecking order for the pizza and indy bowl.

1)7-5 or better sunbelt team must be taken before any outside bid (assuming primary contract with SEC/Big 12/Big East is not fulfilled)
2)Any available at large 7-5 team must be taken to fill bowl any bowl slot available (Indy/Pizza included)
3)If all that remains are 6-6 teams, Pizza and Indy bowl must fill their slots with 6-6 sunbelt teams before accepting a 6-6 at large.

With all that said now, if FAU wins out, that will probably hurt our chances if we lose 1 game and finish 6-6 as they will end up 7-5. Their best chance at a loss is this saturday at ASU. Most other teams are falling the way we need to atleast get into the indy bowl if FAU loses one of its last 2 games.

    EXACTLY!! Thank you!!

Heck. there are some who've been talking bowls since we had 2 wins. and not only that, but how to get to a "better" bowl because the New Orleans Bowl wasn't going to be good enough for us! Is that crazy or what?

Let's say we just try to focus on a win Saturday. then see what happens!

People like talking about bowls (myself included) because the alternative is talking about the Troy game. A game that we will literally have to play perfectly to win. That's pretty depressing.

So anyways, Shreveport sounds like a great place to be in December, who do you think we'll play???

If you beat Troy, wouldn't that guarantee the NO bowl spot?

I'm not sure, but I am sure it would guarantee me going bananas/bonkers.

No because we still would need to beat Middle Tenn. There are a lot of scenarios that could happen.

Actually, that would guarantee us at least a tie for the championship. The lock on the NO Bowl would be one of the following: A) Ark. State beating FAU on Sat. or B) us beating Middle Tennessee in the finale or C) FAU losing their last game (I think).
