I thought Jay did a great job and I am glad he apologized. The only thing that concerned me was his final statements at the end of the interview with Jay. He mentioned something about "as long as it's safe"? During his stay, was he threatened? Did he experience physical or verbal abuse? Did she see some areas of town which would make he feel that Lafayette was "unsafe" for him? Was he worried that if he does take Jay up on his offer, Jay will not look out for this guy's safety? Thought that was a weird comment?

It was probably safe for him before the game. I doubt that it is safe for him here now. One thing I learned quickly when I moved to Lafayette: My Cajun friends were the best friends anyone could ever hope for, but once crossed they could also be the worst enemies one could ever dream of.

I thought Matthew was contrite during the interview and showed remorse for what took place while still accepting responsibility. Sometime the back and forth of conversation leads off in a direction not intended. Once he had time to reflect on how what was said in the interview would be heard by the populace it was about, I would imagine he was shocked himselft.

As to the other guy who was part of the interview, he can stay in Mississippi. Although they thankfully are fewer and father between, there are still far too many folks like that in the world, and we don’t need that kind of individual in our community.

Here's something I was wondering: when you're going to a town you've never been in for 4 days, don't you find somebody who's been there and can tell you where to geaux?

What are the best places to eat? What should I see while I'm there? We have ridiculously long threads of golden information here about that.

Didn't this dude ask somebody where to geaux and what to do? He would've enjoyed his Monday a lot more at Prejeans, checking out the Louisiana campus and Cypress Lake, hell any number of things besides driving the wrong way away from Lafayette into the horse farms of Sunset and the neighborhoods of Lafayette high.

If people would learn to ask more questions, they'd save themselves a lot of grief.

To be pretty honest, I couldn't care less how sorry this guy is. He said what he said. The only reason he's sorry about anything is because it completely backfired on him. Sounds like the editors of his paper and bosses aren't very pleased with him either. He can take his tail between the legs apology and shove it.

A true apology would've been releasing a print article right after his radio comments to resend what he said. Not being invited on to a radio show in Lafayette and accepting then telling us what we want to hear.

And I'm not even cold hearted, I just really think this guys is a f-cking douche and doesn't deserve our sympathy.

He was a big man on campus talking to the d-bag listeners he has, but when he got called on it (I'm sure his bosses told him he better make amends), he was apologetic. I’m not a member of the moral police; I will leave the discussion of whether the young man deserves a pass or if his apology was sincere to others. Here is my question to those what have commented in this thread, how is his comment in regards to all people of Cajun heritage “missing link” any different from what Donald Sterling stated in a recorded private conversation? If he would have mentioned any other ethnic group or culture like Hispanic, Asian or African American, would the same people be willing to give this kid a pass? For those that were outraged by Donald Sterling’s comments, do you arbitrarily give this young man a pass because he was talking about a Caucasian culture? Just thought I would ask the question because some people on this board called in to ESPN1420 when the news of Sterling’s comments broke and were outraged.

Just to be clear, I don’t care what he stated about Lafayette because I’ve heard some of that garbage before and many of us have said similar things about Monroe and a few other communities. But I’ve never attacked another culture or ethnic group which such callousness on any message board, blog, print media and radio.

I personally don't give a crap about any of it, like Cuban said people are allowed to be morons. He is the ignorant one, if he never comes back and never gets to enjoy this place and our people, ____em...his loss not mine. I do agree if it was any other culture,ethnicity or race ____ would have really hit the fan. Does anyone really care if this clown ever comes back to Lafayette? And to the people who would believe what he said, without finding out for themselves, considering what people generally know about our culture are just as ignorant. That's the people I feel sorry for...not me.

A) Really listened to Jumbocajun's advice on the out of town thread. Shame on you Jumbo.
B) Couldn't find a trailer park to accomodate his double wide while in town.
C) Got caught in the Lafayette DWI check point & ended up in the grey bar motel.
D) Got rousted by the cops looking for a hooker on Cameron.
E) Picked up a tranny on Cameron then got rousted by a cop who was laughing his ___ off.

It was funny when Jay told him the he'll take him around to some places where he would like to live and to some places that he couldn't afford.

That would likely be any place in town with four walls, a brick exterior, cement slab, & indoor plumbing in Lafayette with what this boy probably makes as a hack in a small town Mississippi newspaper.

Jay said, in fairness, he didn't say the worst of it. Guy manned up. Said he didn't say those, but he should've had the judgement to stop those comments and cut them off.

He's good with me. I'll buy him a beer next time MSU comes to Lafayette.

My @$$! You obviously didn't hear this punk say what I heard him say. The guy said we weren't even human beings. I can't help it that his boss only gave him enough expense money to stay in some crack dive on Cameron street & that he drives some POS 15 year old Ford with faulty head lights. And that he got caught out after dark trying to pick up God only knows what off of Simcoe. And that he obviously didn't get lucky in his campaign to conquest. And that he can't afford anywhere to live in Lafayette on a thousand dollar a month income. And I can't help it that he can't afford a Tom Tom, or that he doesn't realize that when you make a fool out of yourself publicly your probably going to end up on record on the internet eternally. He's an idiot. And an idiot shouldn't be patted on the back for admitting they're an idiot.
