Louisiana approachse LSU about Home and Home Series

LOUISIANA La. - UL Athletic Director Nelson Schexnayder may have hit a home run. KATC Sports has learned Schexnayder has approached LSU about playing a "home-and-home" football series. The catch is UL's home game would be played at the Superdome and LSU would get to keep most of the gate. In return, the Cajuns would be allowed to make it their home game which means they would have no problem meeting the new NCAA attendance requirement of 15,000 a game.

Talks are just in the early stages, but our sources tell us Skip Bertman is open to the idea.

I endorse this idea, as it makes sense on several levels. It reminds me of the highly successful LSU Tulane baseball series. Some of the advantages are listed below.

Boosted season attendance average

Gets players ready for the New Orleans Bowl.

ps Wyoming has done something similar as recently as last year and it was a huge success. In the Wyoming case they had to go cross country.

2002 Contest will be played in The Coliseum

NASHVILLE (Tenn.), MAY 10, 2000 - The Nashville Sports Council announced today that the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the University of Wyoming Cowboys have agreed to open their 2002 collegiate football seasons against each other in Nashville.

The game will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2002, and will be nationally televised on ESPN. Wyoming will receive financial compensation for moving the game, which was originally scheduled as a home date for the Cowboys in Laramie, Wyo. Wyoming will serve as the home team. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Nashville Sports Council and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Of course it’s great for us, but that's only 50% good enough. What’s in it for LSUA&M-BR? Why would there be any reason for LSUA&M-BR to do this? I know they'd be receiving a nice cash payout, but do they need it that badly? And I’m not sure about this, but aren’t you much better off playing better teams with the BCS formula? I’m not trying to be pessimistic, but before I get all excited about this, id like to know if this is a real possibility.

What I'm being told is that this isn't just about a game. There is another issue where UL is helping out LSU politically, from what I've been told.
