Thread: D1 Playoff System

  1. UL Football D1 Playoff System

Could this system possibly benefit non-"BCS" conferences/schools like Louisiana and the Belt?
The push for this has been getting a lot more positive pub.
If this scenario would come to fruition, and the NCAA set it up like basketball, a Sun-Belt conference winner could get a low seed, and technically compete with the big boys with real implications. That would be fun...

Hopefully we can build on this foundation that we've seemed to be putting together...

Realistically speaking, this could get done in 5 years.

Just wait until Texas Tech and Texas play each other in the National Championship game. We only thought we heard a lot of anti-BCS and pro-Playoff talk last year.

Interesting, but no way could those two play each other in the NC game. With both coming out of the same division of the Big XII, only one could reach the league championship game. I just don't see a team that couldn't even make their own league championship game being in the BCS Championship game.

Nebraska did it. The year Eric Crouch won the heisman. Colorado went to the Big 12 title game, Nebraska didnt, but because they had only one loss, and teams around em lost, they got to go. It has happened before. Problem is, now the polls will do ungoldy positioning just so this doesnt happen again. Same with the Ohio State Michigan debacle of 2 years ago. Michigan was number 2, didnt lose, but was dropped for the sake of BCS continuity. Same thing last year, LSU was nowhere near number 2, but because they won the SECCG, boom! they jump everyone even though they didnt lose, i.e. Kansas, Virginia Tech, & UGA. 3 teams jumped just for the sake of not letting in a non conference champ, except for Virginia Tech. This is why the BCS has no credibility at all. The situations they said they would fix and have an answer for they have to FIX manually by having polls make sure these situations dont happen. What a crock of s##t!

Obama needs to throw some senators down on the NCAA and force the playoff system we all crave. So what if the regular season loses importance, they still have to win to get in baby! Geaux Cajuns!

What you're forgetting is that any D-1 playoff system is going to have token representation from the non-bcs. If there's a 16 team playoff, one spot at most will be reserved for the token non-bcs team, just as it is now. The Cajuns will seldom, if ever, factor into any such system.

If you think this will be set up like March Madness, where all conferences get an automatic bid, you're kidding yourself.

Gee, and here I was thinking the BCS played out pretty good year. I was thinking man and machine worked together bout as smoothly as I could have wanted.

I guess it's one of those different strokes for different folks kinda things, huh.

all this time you were thinking that in an lsu v. va. tech choice for #2 there was a legit reason [48-7]to vote for lsu. well, live and learn, huh?

Memories are short. It was the fact thath both LSU losses were OT games that got them in. Undefeated in regulation, no one else could make that claim.

Having said that the regular seaon needs to be shortened to 10 games an have a 64 team playoff. If 64 teams don't qualify #1 on down gets a bye in week 1.
