Almost a year on from the One mini, HTC has announced a successor: the One mini 2. With a new design and some uprated components, it could be the 'One' for you if the m8 is just too big. Here's everything you need to know about the HTC One mini 2 release date, price and specs.See also:27 best smartphones: The best phone you can buy in 2014.
Compared to the fanfare surrounding the One m8 launch, the brand new One mini 2 has been announced very quietly indeed. The name implies that it’s the successor to the HTC One mini, reviewed. Also see: HTC One mini 2 vs HTC One M8 comparison review.
In reality, it’s the second mini version of the bigger One, so it’s no surprise that the One mini 2 looks exactly like a slightly pared down version of HTC One m8, reviewed.
HTC One mini 2: Release date

Despite vagueness from HTC, the One mini 2 is available now from selected retailers while others state release dates in June. See below for which ones and the pricing.
Of the three colours - Silver, Gunmetal and Amber Gold - the latter will be exclusive to EE in the UK. If you want a Gunmetal or Amber Gold version, you can pre-order one from EE on 23rd May.
HTC One mini 2: price

There’s no word at all on price, but if the original One mini is anything to go by, it could cost around £380. If that’s true, HTC could have a big problem on its hands. Motorola’s forthcoming updated Moto G will have 4G and similar specs to the One mini 2. Yet, it will cost just £149.
And where Sony maintained performance in the Xperia Z1 Compact by keeping the Z1’s processor, HTC hasn’t done that with the One mini 2.
Amazon
Some prices for the HTC One mini 2 are now available and they vary quite wildly. Amazon has a price of £498 which is hardly cheaper than the M8. The online giant says stock will ship on 16 June.
O2
However, the smartphone is available right now on O2 Refresh if you pay £28 per month. There's no upfront cost and the contract will get you 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB data. It also has it for £359 on PAYG.
EE
As we've mentioned, EE has the exclusive on the Amber Gold One mini 2. It's in stock now on various contracts starting at £23.99 per month.
Carphone Warehouse
Carphone Warehouse has the HTC One mini 2 in stock and available from £21 per month and is offering £50 cashback on selected deals.
Phones 4U
The best price we've seen for the HTC One mini 2 is at Phones 4U which is selling the handset for £359 on a SIM-free basis, matching O2's PAYG deal.
Clove
Clove has stock due on 10 June at a slightly higher SIM-free price of £369.

HTC One mini 2: specifications

Screen
The One mini 2 still has a 1280x720-pixel screen like its predecessor, but it’s grown almost imperceptibly from 4.3 to 4.5in.
Storage
There’s also still 16GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, with a microSD expansion slot for adding up to 128GB more.

Processor
A bigger change is the switch from a dual-core to a quad-core processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400. The clock speed may be slower at 1.2GHz (versus 1.4GHz for the original One mini) but it’s sure to be faster overall.

Cameras
Both cameras have had big upgrades, with a 13Mp main rear camera and a 5Mp front-facing webcam. Both can shoot 1080p video. What you don't get is the One m8's second rear camera for measuring depth, which means no refocusing or depth-of-field trickery when editing images.
Software
No surprises with the operating system: HTC preloads Android 4.4 KitKat with the Sense 6 overlay, BlinkFeed and Zoe.
Speakers
The One mini 2 has HTC’s ‘BoomSound’ which means a pair of front-facing speakers, just as the One m8 has. It should offer excellent sound for watching videos or playing games without headphones.
Connectivity
In terms of connectivity, the One mini 2 gets NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 4 with aptX. There’s dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi and the usual micro USB charge/sync port.
There’s support for 4G LTE, operating on four bands in the EMEA region (3, 7, 8 and 20), and the handset requires a nano SIM.
Dimensions and weight
Size and weight are similar to the One mini at 137 x 65 x 10.6mm and 137g. So, it’s a whisker thicker and 15g heavier.
