  4. UL Football Louisiana faces adjustment as unabashed Sun Belt favorites

They have become accustomed to the underdog role, and Louisiana’s Mark Hudspeth had his players relishing the “prove-them-wrong” role during his first two years as the Ragin’ Cajuns football coach.

Even last year, his team still had to share top honors in the preseason coaches poll with state rival ULM. Now the question for the 2014 season: Can the Cajuns perform from the front of the pack?

When the Sun Belt Conference holds its media day Tuesday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Hudspeth and UL offensive stalwarts Terrance Broadway and Alonzo Harris already will have a target on their backs.

  5. UL Football 2014 college football team rankings: 57-64

    58. Louisiana

    Coach: Mark Hudspeth
    2013 record: 9-4
Top players to watch: QB Terrance Broadway (6-2, 221, senior); DT Justin Hamilton (6-2, 310, senior); RB Alonzo Harris (6-1, 238, senior); G Daniel Quave (6-3, 324, senior); OT Mykhael Quave (6-5, 295, junior); WR Jamal Robinson (6-4, 205, senior)

The outlook: The Ragin' Cajuns have won nine games for three consecutive seasons. Broadway began his college career at Houston -- as a backup to Case Keenum -- and his dual-threat abilities are a great fit for Hudspeth's spread attack. He is a dangerous runner and a solid passer. Harris is a physical downhill runner who has 32 career TDs; backup TB Elijah McGuire also is a productive runner. Robinson -- who has good size and can run -- is one of the best receivers in the Sun Belt and gives UL a legit deep threat.

The Quave brothers play key roles for one of the best offensive lines in the Sun Belt. Daniel will be a four-year starter who has started 39 consecutive games; Mykhael is heading into his third season as a starter and has started 26 consecutive games. He was a guard in 2012, then moved to left tackle last fall. Hamilton is the best defensive lineman in the Sun Belt. He is stout at the point of attack but also managed to rack up four sacks last season. Even though there are some concerns in the defensive back seven, this is a deep, experienced team that is the prohibitive Sun Belt Conference favorite. Back-to-back games against Ole Miss and Boise State in September give the Ragin' Cajuns a chance to make some national noise. A 10-win season beckons. And so does a new job for Hudspeth.

  6. Default Sun Belt media day preview: Five questions, five answers

Q: Can the Cajuns win the league outright? The league's coaches and the major preseason magazines were unanimous that UL is the class of the league. The Cajuns have their main offensive weapons returning in quarterback Terrance Broadway and .

  7. Default Sun Belt notes: Cajuns shrug at preseason accolades

The preseason prognostications have been kind to UL. The Sun Belt Conference's coaches unanimously tabbed the Cajuns to win the league. Eight Cajuns found their way onto the preseason all-Sun Belt first team, and two more made the second team.

  8. Default UL football coach Mark Hudspeth's vision becomes reality as 2014 season nears

The Cajuns have since won 27 games including three bowl games. UL won a share of the league title last season, and Sun Belt coaches picked the Cajuns to win another title in 2014. Arkansas State, which won the title outright in 2011 and 2012, and split .

  9. Default Hudspeth: Cajuns have a target on their back

They have gone 9-4 each of the past three seasons.

As coach UL football coach Mark Hudspeth sees it, the question of how his Ragin' Cajuns – unanimous favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference – can take the next step and win 10 or more is a difficult one to answer.

So suggested Hudspeth when speaking this afternoon during Sun Belt Media Day at the Superdome here.

Does anyone from our Administration EVER call any paper, media outlet, station and simply say, "Hey bone Head how many years do we need to tell you WE do NOT geaux by ULL!"?

  13. Default Coach Hud Says Cajuns Enter 2014 With Blank Slate

The predictions have been tablulated and the consensus opinion is overwhelmingThe University of Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns are big time favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference this coming football season. Sporting news, USA Today, Phil .

  14. UL Football As preseason practice looms, Cajuns see road success as route to Top 25

This isn't a small step for the Louisiana football program. It's a giant leap.

That step, of course, is the next one, the one that ascends through the non-power conference ceiling and into the unknown.

  15. Ragin' Cajuns Defending Champ Ragin' Cajuns Report For Fall Camp

Fourth-year head coach Mark Hudspeth welcomed 105 players, including 61 returning letterwinners, on Sunday as the defending Sun Belt Conference champion Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team reported for fall camp.
