It'd be pretty neat to beat Kentucky and Alabama, and then face and beat Alabama twice in the final.

Note that beating Alabama in the winner's bracket would cause Bama to cross over to the other side, making a matchup with them in the national championship series possible.

Either way... I hope these girls do what they're capable of this week. If they do, we're going to win the national championship... period.

If they don't... they are amazing ambassadors for this University, no matter how far they geaux.

I think the nation (and more importantly, Hall of Fame stadium) is going to fall in love with their grit and get behind this team (in games where we're not playing Oklahoma).

Watch for the crowd advantage tonight. We're going to adopt a lot of Cajuns fans, I bet.

everyone is so PC these days and compete to see who can be the most outraged. Lady Cajuns will never be derogatory or demeaning in any way, and everyone knows that.
I am neither PC nor outraged. I don't think UL took any sort of PC stance or anything. I think it just evolved over time as something that made sense. But the change did happen over time, and there was some curiosity in this thread. I added an opinion with possible drivers for the change and researched thoughts on the grammatical use of the word lady. You can find that on dictionary.com. Don't confuse my post as having taken a stance on an issue. There is no issue.

Me too. Pretty tired of the media transferring football credibility to every other sport. This will be "shocking" to everyone but us.

Anyone remember the last time we played Kentucky at Lamson 2 years ago? I want to say the Narissa Meyers hit a 2 out walk off grand slam to win it.

Grammar-wise, the use of "lady" as an adjective is generally negative because it becomes a qualifer (ex. That lady doctor doesn't know what she is talking about.). The singular noun can also be negative depending on the context.

The plural noun refers to the female gender in a general way, without qualification. Therefore, a statement like "Bring home a national championship, ladies!" should be well received.
If they knew the history of sports at UL they wouldn't feel that way.

The ladies played competitive sports at UL in the schools first year of operation. They had a basketball team a decade before the men.

In the late 1920's UL joined the "Womens Athletic Association"

This "women's" club banned the girls from intercollegiate sports, and the effects lasted for the next 50 years.

When sports resumed they decided on Lady Cajuns as a differentiator.

Lady doctor, is a non identifier, Lady Cajuns is a proper noun. No comparison.

You can't break a name in half to demolish it.

At UL, Lady Cajuns is a better name than Cajun Women ( which we are flooded with during basketball season) in part because it is loved.

I do understand the trying to save money aspect, but in reality they would make more money with both Ragin' Cajuns Softball and a little Lady Cajuns paraphernalia.

    Alabama 3-2 (Florida, FSU)
    Kentucky 1-0 (OU)
    Florida 3-3 (FSU, Oregon, Bama)
    Florida St 2-2 (Florida, Bama)
    Oklahoma 3-4 (Baylor, UL, UK)
    Oregon 0-1 (Florida)
    Baylor 1-5 (UL, OU)

Perhaps simply "DOGS" might be appropriate for LA Tech women sports.
