For breakfast you could also try Meche's Donuts... Or Meche's Donut King.

Shrimp Po Boy and the best cheeseburger in town. That's definitely a start.

I'm interested in more discussion about Prejean's. Some have called it a tourist trap (but hey, I'm a tourist) and overrated but others seem to swear by it. Good food and live music sounds awesome. Food seems a little pricy, but a great atmosphere is worth something too.
Is it a decent place for kids? I may be entertaining a couple of 12-year-olds Friday night while my brother and his wife have a date night.
Also, is it likely to be very crowded Friday night? I don't know how much waiting an hour on a table appeals to me.
I honestly wouldn't recommend it. Too expensive for what you get. Lunch menu is what makes it work but obviously you won't be lunching there.

Go to Fezzo's. They have basically taken over since Prejean's fell off and their prices are reasonable. You will not be disappointed, they have all the dishes you could want to try and you'll leave well pleased.

Bread pudding is possibly my all time favorite dessert. I wouldn't complain about another 20 page thread

Oh yes. Another winner for sure. Hub city Diner has the best pancakes in town. I prefer the sweet potato pancake. Was going to mention earlier, but forgot the name. Obviously need to make a return visit.

At Fat Pat's, get the pork n' bean sandwich. Fried porkchop covered in redbeans and pepperjack cheese. It's amazing.

Do yourself a favor and get breakfast at the French Press.
Pork n' bean sandwich…. lol I seem to recall the creation of this delight

It is good, cheap, diner breakfast. I worked there for a couple years in college. If you want a truly unique delicious breakfast, I would suggest French Press and Cafe Des Amis, but for a traditional diner type breakfast, Hub City is heads and shoulders better than Mels and most other diners I have eaten at.

Turbine, how much do the restaurants pay to sponsor the site? You should be hitting those guys up for at least a couple of hundred a piece.

But have cut back on the menu, portions, & quality. For those who remember they had the best french bread on earth when they used Pouppart's french bread & bread crumbs. It's okay, but nothing special now. The protions used to as large as the price so it was a good deal. Now, for dinner expect to pay at least $30-60 for an entree alone and either order appetizer & desert, or expect to leave still hungry. Just not worth the money when comapare to many other local places who serve great specialties at a fraction of the price. Just my opinion. Now, if money is no object & you want to be somebody. Then it's the place to go.
Lots of this is true, sadly. The bread used to be out of this world, and of all things they had the best croutons on the planet. They also cut out my favorite dish anywhere, the Snapper Pontchartrain. It's still a very good restaurant, but it's not as good as it used to be. Now it doesn't take as much to fill me up as BWK so I still leave full, but it's only a really good restaurant now, not a great one.
