Thread: What HS's don't let their players communicate with UL??

  1. Default What HS's don't let their players communicate with UL??

Just now on the Great Scott show, a caller was discussing Dr Savoie and at the tail end of the discussion Scott eluded to the fact that some high schools in the area put a block in the communication process when the university tries to recruit certain players. What schools are these so I know where to keep my future D linemen from going and helping their program? Anyone have any info on this?

There have been rumors of this for years, but the people who know are tight-lipped.

There are also people on the academic side who discourage kids from coming to UL. But some of that has been slowly changing.

I have a friend of mine whose father is a coach at a High School in Lafayette, when I asked her why is it that local kids dont get a lot of attention from UL. She told me that her Father had made multipule contacts to UL to try to get them to look at some of the kids in this high school program. He said that UL never really showed any interest nor sent anyone out to watch them. I don't know now true this is, but it did come out of her mouth and she is a big football fan.

Just get a list of high school coaches who have degrees from McNeese and you will have your answer. Not all view UL as a school who does not deserve their good athletes but most see it that way.

Carencro is one of the schools that comes to mind.

Agreed, however it is very easy to not do well in school and go to Chuck. Again I am very pleased with out outcome on the Frosh Class.

Well we've had/have players from Lafayette High, Comeaux, STM, and Teurlings. I can't recall any players from Acadiana, Breaux Bridge, NISH, Cecilia, Abbeville, Carencro, Northside. Just take a look at the roster starting from 5 years ago to now. You can see certain HS programs are absent. I went to Acadiana and I can't recall (aside from Justin Venable) any players playing for UL. It's pretty clear that Breaux Bridge is an LSU hot bed. I could be way off in my thinking that this method can give insight. JMO

Carencro: Bill Sampy, John Bernard, Dexter Babineaux, Atiba Dauzart, Chad Arnaud, Keno Davis, Altony Davis, Greg Laxey

Cecilia: Anthony Clement, Brian Soignier, Will Chance

Breaux Bridge: Rocky Guidry, the Hippolites

I know there are more that I am forgetting.

So many guys don't get signed with UL b/c of their grades or it is simply the best thing for them to move out of town.
Some of you guys need to go hangout with the all-knowing Jay Walker.

I'd like to know what's going on. One of the things we've heard-- and that doesn't make it true-- is that local coaches with marginal players call us, and expect us to take them because they're local.

But if they have a stud, they discourage them from coming here.

If that's true, they want us to support the local players, but they don't support the local school.

Again, that's what we've heard. I'd love to know the true story here.

Acadiana can't get anyone academically eligible. We got a guy from Northside last year. All the others have only had a small # of DI players over the years. That may change this year.....
