Thread: Louisiana husks #4 Nebraska, WINS SERIES 2-1

    Default NU Shocked

They mentioned Friday that we were only the second unranked team to win at Hawks field since it was opened.

Now we are the second and third...

And I would guess we were the first team to ever win there with a losing record.

The Huskers have been good friends. They pulled for us in Omaha, and when State dropped us, NU added this third game without hesitation.

But you gotta love winning, particularly against a top 5 team.

I also heard that it was the first time they lost a series at that feild to anyone.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Kevin Preau had four hits, including a three-run first-inning double that gave Louisiana the lead for good, and Austin Faught and Kraig Schambough combined to check Nebraska’s offense as the Ragin’ Cajuns took an 8-2 win Sunday in the rubber game of their non-conference baseball series.

The Cajuns (23-26), winners of eight of their last 10 and finishing a seven-game road trip 6-1, became the first team to beat the fourth-ranked ’Huskers (36-13) in a home series this season.

Nebraska had gone 21-3 at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park this year, but the Cajuns took a 4-2 Friday win before NU won 6-2 on Saturday.

“Give credit to the guys,” said Cajun head coach Tony Robichaux. “It’s not us as coaches, it’s them. Their attitude’s changed, and that’s what causes winning. Guys have stepped up, and they played a complete weekend.”

Lincoln - Kevin Preau went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, leading Louisiana to an 8-2 win over fourth-ranked Nebraska in the series finale Sunday at Hawks Field.

Preau gave the Ragin’ Cajuns (23-26) all the offense they would need in the first inning, as Louisiana loaded the bases before Preau drove Phil Shirek’s 0-1 pitch to the wall for a bases-clearing double, giving Louisiana a 3-0 lead.

The Louisiana right-fielder would later add RBI singles in the fifth and seventh innings, as the Ragin’ Cajuns became the first visiting team to win a series in Hawks Field and the first visiting team to take a series from the Huskers (36-13) in Lincoln since the 2001 season.

Kraig Schambough, who earned the save in Friday’s 4-2 win, picked up the win in relief of starter Austin Faught, allowing one run on four hits in 4.1 innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the year.

"The source of the trouble today was Louisiana," Nebraska Coach Mike Anderson said. "They did a good job pitching, and they played good defense. We got down early and there were a few things that went their way. They made their breaks and flat-out out-played us."

The best part is that they kept giving Hawke the dilberate walk to get to Preau, good by the book, but clearly not this week-end, or last week-end.
