The conference hasn't been sharing bowl profit (other than the BCS share) because there has been no real profit to share.
Don't be fooled by the numbers you see on websites regarding payout. There is significant fraud involved. Remember the shock that the MWC gave up a $1.4 million payout in the Liberty? What people don't know is that the MWC paid a "marketing fee" to the Liberty of about half that amount and that payout included a ticket requirement. Their runner-up was making more going to Las Vegas when the payout was $800,000 than the champion was making in Memphis when the "payout" was $600,000 more.
The Cajuns would make more money in New Orleans because the payout is based on a very low ticket allotment. Sell above it through your ticket office and you make more.
The NCAA no longer requires bowls to pay each team the same amount. They understand that while the SEC can command $1.7 million now to come to Memphis that C-USA isn't as attractive and that $1.7 million can be reduced a bit either through fees or just a lower payment.
When you aren't the SEC and you aren't a BCS buster, your bowl revenue is almost totally what you sell in tickets.
Now that we've settled which bowl we'd like to be in and who we'd like to match up against... I hope we win the coin toss.
