Thread: Softball Super Regional

I wasn't able to attend the regional last weekend due to family commitments. Watching on ESPN3 with a Cajun batter in the box, the announcer is talking about how Coach Lotief teaches hitting with the split grip. Funny, the batter isn't hitting with a split grip as she's talking. Next batter, no split grip. I think this goes back to the last WCWS trip with Vanessa Soto. From my understanding, it's a technique used with certain players who are too right hand heavy in their swings. I think Mike is much more about hip rotation than whether your hands are split. Sorry about the ramble, but it shows that announcers will go for the simplest and easiest to remember catch phrases when covering a team rather than watching film or (heaven forbid) actually speaking with the coach intellectually. My worry has always been that this gets used against us in recruiting, as in "You know Lotief will make you change your swing and grip if you go there".

During that WCWS, Mike did a segment for ESPN where he explained exactly what you said here.

But if you opine about a "split-grip," you sound smart.

Looked at Stubhub and a couple of the super-regionals have tickets posted. $30-40 is asking price. Curious, what were the UL vs AZ face value tickets prices?

I'm guessing UL should see a nice revenue bump overall given we haven't been the host team in any S-R. Seems logical the largest share goes with the host team. Extra bonus on the expense side.....no travel expenses either. Hoping a nice Revenue bump for hosting regional happened too.

All langiappe dollars as we didn't host either last year.
