  1. Default Cajuns Ditch Euphoria for Road Trip to SLU

    pregame

HAMMOND — The euphoria of a weekend Sun Belt Conference sweep over New Orleans hasn’t worn off yet, and one of the highest-ranked opponents that Louisiana will face all season is lurking this weekend.

It’s a prime situation for a letdown tonight, when the Ragin’ Cajuns travel to face the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana in a makeup of a previously rained-out contest.

“Southeastern doesn’t care what we did this past weekend,” Cajun coach Tony Robichaux said. “The 52 hits we got last weekend won’t have anything to do with this game.”

The Cajuns, 20-25 but winners of five straight and 13 of their last 18, were originally scheduled to face the Lions (14-27) at SLU’s Alumni Field back on April 9.

Tonight’s 6:30 p.m. contest is the next-to-last mid-week outing of the year for a Cajun squad that travels to meet fourth-ranked Nebraska (33-11) in a three-game series this weekend.

  2. Default Sizzling Cajuns crush Southeastern LA

    postgame

HAMMOND — The University of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team defeated the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 8-1 on Tuesday at Alumni Field.

The Cajuns win both meetings against the in-state rivals on the year.

Louisiana (21-25) has now won six straight games with the win, while Southeastern falls to 14-28 on the year.

Louisiana senior left-hander Andy Gros becomes the schools all-time appearances leader on the mound with his 81st career appearance, passing former Cajun pitcher Mike Gautreau. Gros made the record appearance one to remember as he struck out 10 SLU hitters and held the Lions scoreless on just four hits in six innings of work.

It was the first appearence for Gros since he pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief on April 13th against Arkansas-Little Rock.
