I watched the game here in VA on the Redskins network, and I thought that overall Jake played well. Despite stumbling once (and falling) when coming out from under center on a play action fake, he looked a lot smoother than Peete did. He also showed some smarts, and arm strength, on that same play by throwing the ball away after getting up when he fell in the midst of tough pressure.

The long pass down to near the goalline was to Ricky Proehl. They seem to have good chemistry between the two of them.

I'm hoping that by the beginning of the season, Jake will suplant Peete, although he seemed as solid (and unspectacular) as usual. Not sure if he'll make many mistakes. Jake will have to shine some and make some plays.

One annoying thing about the coverage up here on TV was that the announcer kept saying that Jake played at Florida State. Seems like the Cajuns hardly ever get the notoriety they deserve.

    Geaux Jake.

Jake was 3 of 5 no interceptions and 12 rushing yards on a designed running play.

On a strickly per play level he was by far the most productive QB.

  9. Default QB Delhomme having fun, trying not to worry about competition

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Cajun quarterback Jake Delhomme received a passing grade from head coach John Fox following his first preseason game with the Carolina Panthers.

But Delhomme knows it might take something extra special for him to wrestle the starting job away from incumbent Rodney Peete.

What exactly Delhomme must do to convince Fox and his staff that he should be their number one man remains unclear, but the Louisiana kid knows tonight’s game against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium represents a golden opportunity to show he can play against one of the better defenses in the league.

“The first game it was just good to get out there and run a system,” Delhomme said of Saturday night’s 20-0 victory over the Washington Redskins. “You can run it all you want in practice, but you don’t really know until you get out there in a game. I felt comfortable out there. I wish we would have punched one in there near the end zone, but it didn’t happen.

“I’m really eager to get back out there because now I have one game behind me and I think I’ll be even more comfortable running the offense.”

  10. Default Jake against the Giants

On his first driver of the night just prior to half-time Jake has a few completions.

A timely pass interference call against the Giants keeps the drive alive. sounded like it may have been caught if not for that. Who knows.

The drive started with what sounded like a long pass that went incomplete.

He completed one pass where the receiver ended up losing 4 yards. Which was followed by a running play that gained the 4 back.

On 3rd and 10 from the 37 Jake has a completion that goes for what seems like 20 yards down to the Giants 17.

On first down Jake throws a pass where the Giants were once again called for pass interference. Panthers 1st and goal from the 7 ard line. Pass complete :34 seconds left 2nd and goal from the 4 yard line.

On third down empty backfield for the second time, penalty hands to the face #69 Panthers.

2nd and goal from the 13 empty backfield Jake pass throught the hands of receiver.

3rd and goal from 13 endzone safely throws ball away.

    Drive results in 3 points.

  12. What a Downer

Don’t you Cajun fans believe in honesty in reporting? Why didn’t you report on his unsuccessful drives?
