Seriously, now that Carolina is vacationing, the Saints doing well are certainly OK with me.

I remember that time well. Saitns fans were screaming Jake...Jake... Jake... I still can't understand why Hazzelet didn't play him.

The Saints have done some stupid things over the years but letting Jake go for Brooks might one of the dumbiest.
    RC,

I get your sentiment, but after watching the Sugar Bowl, I doubt that I'd want Jake to make ANY remarks like Bradshaw's. Ouch!

The defense needs to get some younger players who arent always injured, but their biggest problem is the running game. Facts are facts, and the fact remains that the panthers had a lead in the 4th quarter in like 12 games this year, meaning they couldn't find a way to seal the deal. That comes back to the running game, An elaborate game of keep away. Deangelo Williams will be good, but he was to young to count on every day for 30 carries. Deshaun Foster is over-rated big time, and after that, the talent pool drops almost to nothin. Expect them to go after an O-lineman in the draft, and a decent RB in Free Agency.

I agree about receivers... Keyshaun maybe gone and a strong FA or top pick there would be nice, but Jake has proven that he can win with a line a RB and ONE rceiver...

I think there needs to be adequate depth on the OLINE again...

D Williams, if healthy, will prove to be a better pure running back than New Orleans' first round pick... not as versatile but much more solid.

Foster is over rated, but he doesn't suck when the line does their job... but he gets hurt.

Well...couldent that kinda be said about any RB in the NFL? From what I saw a guy who can put it together for one game, but not one season. Against Defenses who lack speed, he has career days, but against fast defenses, hes almost worthless. We would have been better going with Nick Goings from the beginning of the year that Foster. Give me a guy who will give me 16 decent games over a guy who gives me 8 great games, and 8 bad games. But thats just me.

  6. UL Football Jake Delhomme gets a run oriented Offensive Coordinator

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Carolina Panthers hired Cleveland Browns assistant Jeff Davidson as their offensive coordinator Tuesday.

Davidson, who was the Browns' assistant head coach/offensive line coach, will take over for Dan Henning, who was fired last week.

Carolina also announced that Dave Magazu, who has served as tight ends coach since 2003, will take over as offensive line coach for Mike Maser, who was also fired last week in a coaching shake up after Carolina finished a disappointing 8-8 and failed to make the playoffs.

Davidson's hiring likely means coach John Fox wants the Panthers to focus on the running game. Before joining Cleveland, the 39-year-old Davidson spent eight seasons as tight ends/assistant offensive line coach with New England. Corey Dillon rushed for 1,635 yards in 2004, when the Patriots won the Super Bowl.

The Panther defense slipped a lot this season, and so did their offense. Jake has not had two quality receivers since Smith and Muhammed, and the Panthers have let lineman after lineman go. You cannot be a run oriented team unless you can do all of the above, and if you don't plan on scoring a lot, you need a lock down defense for the fourth quarter.

The Panthers seem to have gotten Tom Benson disease, laying out a lot of money on bad players.

The Panthers had a rough year last year, but a lot of that was due to injuries, especially along the offensive line. Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson are a good starting WR duo, but when there's no line to run or pass block, things get difficult. And I think they have been trying to upgrade along the line the past couple of years. The drafted Jordan Gross in the first round, they gave Mike Wahle a monster contract, and they wanted Jammal Brown in the draft a couple years ago (luckily, as a Saints fan, that one didn't work out). I think that will continue this offseason; I fully expect them to sign at least one lineman in free agency (I've heard that they really like Montrae Holland, a Saints' starter at guard who's a free agent this offseason) and take at least two more in the draft.

Aside from the line problems they had, their RB's are nothing to write home about. I've watched Deshaun Foster for a few seasons and hes not that special. He has a problem making the first person miss, after that, what determines if a guy should be playing is the ability to fall forward, and deshaun has had spotty success with that recently too. Deangelo Williams is the future and with a solid line and a full year in the system, I think Williams will blow up and have a huge year next year. As far as their WR corps, I think carter will fill in decently in a complimentary role to Steve Smith, and acctually, it hasent been problem with the WR's, they didnt really have a huge drop problem, it was that when they ran, they got stomped, and when they threw, the line was allowing pressure all day long in jakes face forcing bad throws. I think youll see the Panthers bounce back in a big way next year.
