Default A good article about Jake Delhomme!

I have heard people saying Jake is just an average QB and I've always fought for him. Jake is a star. I'm so proud of him and I'm glad oh how far he has gotten.

The Saints really messed up by not keeping him.

How about calling him Jake The Great? Has a nice ring to it and fits his abilities.

  4. UL Football Cajun up with Jake: Comparisons

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme met with the media this week and discussed a wide variety of topics. Here are his answers.

On if his shoulder is bothering him: The shoulder has not hurt one bit. I don't know where that got started, but it hasn't hurt once. It's just the normal camp soreness. The arm gets a little tired, but the shoulder has never hurt once. Everything feels lovely. I'm only going one-a-days right now to work myself back in it, but I'm dying to go twice.

On if this team is different from previous teams: I don't think anything is different, attitude-wise, from the last couple of years. Guys come to work. They don't try to skip practice. When they're out at practice, they aren't going through the motions. They want to get better. There's competition. I think that's been the case the last three years. The year we went to the Super Bowl, I was probably worried about myself. Didn't know the guys all that well and was just trying to figure everything out. But now I can look around and see what other guys are doing. It's fun to go to practice and compete against our defense, but it's tough because they're good. You don't get a break, especially against those two corners (Ken Lucas and Chris Gamble). They've seen all our routes. It's their second year going against us so it makes it that much tougher. But it also makes you better.

On wide receivers Keary Colbert and Drew Carter: Keary looks like a different player. Just the little things, like (Tuesday) morning, the way he ran a comeback route. He can explode in and out of breaks again. And Drew is probably 100 times more confident than last year. He was basically a rookie but he was able to play the last six games, three of them in the playoffs. The way he came on was impressive. (Wide receivers coach) Richard (Williamson) stays after them a good bit, but they're two kids who want to be good.

On adding Keyshawn Johnson to the mix: That means we have more weapons. If we do some four wide receiver sets out on the field that would be healthy for us. You never know. Things play themselves out. We'd love to have all four guys and love to have everybody on this team stay healthy, but you just have to keep working and let the chips fall where they may.

BALTIMORE -- Jake Delhomme wasn't about to be upstaged by a backup quarterback who hadn't tossed a touchdown pass since Christmas.

Delhomme threw for a career-high 365 yards and two touchdowns, as Carolina slipped past the Baltimore Ravens 23-21 yesterday for its fourth straight win.

After Ravens quarterback Steve McNair left with a concussion and sprained neck in the first quarter, Kyle Boller took over.

A starter for three years before being displaced by McNair, Boller threw three touchdown passes to provide Baltimore (4-2) with its biggest scoring output since Week 2.

But every time Boller and the Ravens did something right, Delhomme answered.

Has anyone ever took a microphone and stuffed it in Haslett's face and asked him what he thinks about Jake now?

  10. UL Football Delhomme No. 1 QB in Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jake Delhomme kept up his routine while the Dallas Cowboys made a quarterback change ahead of their game on Sunday against the Panthers.

Carolina’s quarterback is keeping it simple ahead of his 62nd consecutive start Sunday.

“I just want to come out and work,” he said. “I’d love to double it up, get another 62.”

Delhomme is still stinging after throwing an interception in the end zone with four minutes remaining in Carolina’s 17-14 loss in Cincinnati last Sunday. Had Delhomme thrown the ball away, the Panthers probably would have tied it on a short John Kasay field goal.

“You don’t play well, you accept it like a man,” said Delhomme, the former University of Louisiana at Lafayette star from Breaux Bridge. “You look at the film, you learn from it, but you’ve got to let it go. Don’t get me wrong, there are scars you’ll have for life. That’s part of it.”

But aside from a few angry talk show callers and the occasional plea for backup Chris Weinke, there is nothing close to a quarterback controversy in Carolina. There hasn’t been one since Delhomme replaced Rodney Peete at halftime of the Panthers’ season opener in 2003.

The Panthers, who trailed 17-0 in the third quarter of that game, rallied behind Delhomme’s three touchdown passes, the last coming on fourth down with 16 seconds left in Carolina’s 24-23 win over Jacksonville, the largest comeback in team history.

Delhomme has started all 54 regular-season games and seven playoff games since, helping the Panthers reach the Super Bowl at the end of the 2003 season and the NFC championship game last season.

“Jake’s done a good job for us, and we’re happy with him,” coach John Fox said. “That’s one position that we feel solid at.”
