Thread: Pro. Jake Delhomme

First off, I don't think it would be out of the question to see Jake in NOLA. Someone mentioned salary, well Jake I think now understands that at this point, his chances of starting and leading a franshise are about over. However, he's a heady veteran with poise and he could be a great backup for a few years. I think with that in mind, he knows he won't make crazy money to be a backup so I think that is a possibility. Also, for those who know Jake at all, it won't be that easy for him to just turn away from football and come back home. That's not Jake. While he has other interests outside of football, he's breathed it his life and I would be surprised to just see him walk away. I would bet that Jake stays in football in one capacity or another for another 3-5 years. JMO

I agree zephyr. I never understood how a pro athlete could become to proud to make $300+ thou a year.

I know being a backup is a hard transition, but you never know when you will get the chance to shine.

Besides, Jake whole shining career was built on coming off the bench and making a go of it.

    Geaux-Jake

I like the quote that said he should go back to BB and handle his horses. He played in the most exciting Superbowl ever played in my humble opinion. Had a nice career with Carolina after the previous Saints regime was to stupid not to start him.

Go home and enjoy your life Jake. You deserve it. Besides living in BB, Cafe Des Amis is always nearby.
Wouldn't mind seeing Jake come home to UL. What a visible spokesman for UL football and for fund raising.

He has had a couple of offers to be a backup. I think he may just be tired of moving his family around to be honest. And no, going to the Saints is pretty much out of the question. Payton is more than happy with Daniel as the only backup and Canfield on the PS. They havent even hinted that they want a veteran QB.

Man...if he goes, it's because the situation was absolutely PERFECT and several planets lined up just right. Jake is at the point where he is ready to walk away...he has plenty of money in the bank for the rest of his life...his kids are settled back in Breaux Bridge next to gramps...oh, and that pool is done.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned it down.

If he intends to turn it down, why bother with the workout?

Jeff Garcia is also being brought in to work out for the Texans. Who knows, the Texans may sign both Jake and Garcia as they are down to their No. 3 right now. Remember when the Cajuns played San Jose in Oct. of 1993 for homecoming. Big crowd that day as two future Pro Bowl QB's were on the same field. I remember because it was a Cajun victory and all wins are precious.

I was told Jake turned down an offer to work out for the Dolphins earlier in the year. Texans might be different simply because of proximity. They also have a complete team with a strong defense, good running game, and a standout receiver. They should be a playoff team this year.
