He has really declined in the past 2 years. He had a good run in the pros.
I could possibly c him going to new Orleans and new Orleans only as a backup. If he doesn't go compete fora starting job, I see him enjoying the ponies!

IMHO, this was an incredibly dumb move by the panthers front office who bent to the fans criticism of Jake over the last year. I don't think he was starter material, but he was damn sure good enough to stay on as a backup and help coach Moore through some of his growing pains next season. Its a sad day as a Panthers fan, Jake brought us to the promised land, and fell one possession short of fulfilling the dream.
Good luck Jake, and still, Go Panthers!
I think the Panthers see it as an economic move. Apparently if they cut him now while the cap is expired they won't take the big hit for that $12 million they owe him even when the cap is reinstated. Not knowing the details of the cap I'm not sure if they can resign him at a lower salary to lessen the cap hit but still owe him the $12 mil from the previous contract.
Once you are cut, the previous contract is completely null and void. However, in this case his contract called for him to be paid the 12.7 MM$ if cut. Jake's a wealthy man today Some of the national media is now reporting this. Jake had a very smart agent. I wonder if he would increase his financial support of our program if asked dimplomatically.
Note, I edited my original post after finding the new info.
