I'll take Jake's 2003-2006 seasons since he only played 3 games in 2007.
2003 11-5
2004 7-9
2005 11-5
2006 8-8
2 out of 4 winning seasons.
Brees 2006-2007 seasons
2006 10-6
2007 7-9
1 out of 2 winning seasons.
They have both turned out the same amount of winning seasons relative to the years they've played with their current team. Jake won in the playoffs because his defense was head and shoulders better than what Brees has had.
Brees has put the Saints on his shoulders on several occasions, and with the "winning" stat even between the two, Brees has the edge.
Geaux Cajuns
Come on now Z, I don't think anyone is turning their back on Jake by any means. I was a Saints fan before I even knew how to pronounce Delhomme. The guys on the field have nothing do with decisions made in the front office. I'm pulling for Jake every game that he's not playing the saints. I'm just capable of taking an unbiased look at things when it comes to who is better than who. Just like Benson doesn't give a rats as.s about me, i don't give a rats as.s about him, what I do give a rats as.s about is Drew Brees who works his as.s off to win games, Duece McAllister, Reggie Bush, Mike McKenzie, and Jonathan Vilma to name a few.
I'm a loyal fan. If you think thats wrong, then that's your opinion. I didn't give up, pick another team, or turn my back on my team when the going got tough. No sir, there is nothing wrong with me.
Sorry, guess my loyalties aren't THAT strong to Delhomme. I'm not dropping the Saints for the Bears, Texans, Panthers, or whoever else drafts a UL player. Just the way it is. Don't tell me that every franchise in the NFL is (warning: pun) saintly except for NO. I'm a Saints fan because that's what I grew up as, good or bad, bad decisions with players, coaches, and janitors - it doesn't matter to me.
Did anyone stop being a Cajun fan when they hired Baldwin?
Fired Baldwin?
Continued to recruit players of questionable character?
Making unfulfilled promises of facility changes?
Continued to let Doc A meddle in places he had no business?
I dunno - organizations, specifically people in large groups with power, do really dumb, ill-advised, and shady stuff all the time. Sure, Benson probably hides his horns when he goes out in public, doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching the Saints play football.
For the record, Delhomme is a good quarterback. The Saints should have kept him and fired Brooks. The Saints have Brees now, who I think is a top 3 QB in this league, no question.
Other than snubbing Delhomme out of a job, what have the Saints done to wrong everyone so? I don't get it...
I'd bet if you asked Jake, he'd say he's still a Saints fan. Without the Saint's, Jake probably doesn't get a shot in the NFL at all.
I thought the article was about the year the Saints were 9-4 and played an injured Brooks who lost the last 3 games?
Jake would have been the right choice then. I think Jake takes the Saints deep that year! We only needed one win. Jake knows how to win. He'll have a bad game here and there, but he's a solid player.
As of today I would choose Brees. He is the real deal. It's not on the shoulders of Brees for two of our loses this year. It was some idiot kicker (sorry for taking your phrase Manning).
Brees fits great in our style and I am glad he's our quarterback today. Jake should have been our quaterback then. I am still a Jake fan. He's no pushover. He's also one of the most humble football players off the feild. He's a class act. I don't see why people don't have room in their hearts for someone who doesn't play on the Saints. He's a Cajun too!
One last stat... Jake is 6-2 against the Saints!
GEAUX JAKE! GEAUX SAINTS! GEAUX CAJUNS!
Z -
Does turning our back on Jake mean rooting for him every week except when he plays the Saints. Wanting him to do well and supporting him except when he plays the team that we have watched our whole lives.
If so, what happens when the Panthers play the Broncos or the Bears play the Steelers. Does the world implode because two Cajuns are playing and they both left blood, sweat and tears on Cajun Field.
Jerry Baldwin left blood sweat and tears on Cajun Field. Do we leave the University because he left.
I don't want to generalize, but I, and others may as well, find it condescending when you say there is something wrong with me because I support a team that doesn't give a Rat's ass about me. But the players may, they work hard and give their all. I don't cheer for the Saints' front office bottom line. I cheer for the collection of players and coaches who where the Saints uniform on Sundays. And to some degree, I think each of them does want to please the fans, and has their interests at heart. If they didn't many of them would not donate their time and energy back to the community.
I love Jake. I want him to do well. I will always remember what he did for the program. But if our loyalty is to be to the guys who left this program and are in the pros, then we could have no favorite team, because then we would be at some point pulling against guys who played for this university.
There is no way to distinguish between the sacrifices that Charles Tillman, Jake, Stokely, Ike, CC or even Brian Mitchel made to the program. We're proud of al lof them and want them to do well.
