Thread: Pro. Jake Delhomme

  1. Default Humility a lost art

I was flipping through the channels yester eve and came upon a celebrity talking about her newest album and acting gig. She is a very big celebrity, a pop diva, but I’m not going to reveal her name. In the few minutes I watched, she spoke very highly of her own talent, about how her music had touched people and how she had a gift for acting, though she had not often been challenged. Then they interviewed one of her friends/ relatives who said that though she had been a superstar since childhood she was one of the few stars who was “authentically humble.”

Erik, I root for the Panthers most of the time, sometimes even when they play the Saints. I admire Delhomme.

An old high school coach of mine imparted some sage advice to his teams. The advice was "you win big, and you lose big." Translation: you don't brag when you win, and you don't use excuses when you lose.

  4. UL Football Jake is proof to area youth dreams do come true

Jarrett Phillips stood patiently in line, a Carolina Panthers helmet floating comfortably on his head.

Another kid sat on the floor, carefully laying out his freshly-autographed Jake Delhomme jersey, then took a picture of it.

    Just in case, I guess.

Orlando Thomas Jr. bounced back and forth between his mom and his spot on the floor. The whole time, he tossed a bruised, battered and, in some places, torn, red-and-white nerf football in the air.

Besides being campers at UL's annual Ragin' Cajun football camp, all three had another thing in common: They were all smiling and having a good time.

And that's something UL coach Rickey Bustle never gets tired of seeing in the Cajun locker room.

"You can never start recruiting them too early," Bustle joked. "This is truly a special event for us. We love to see the kids out here having a good time and learning a little bit about football."

  5. UL Football Back on track: Delhomme's recovery is complete

If signing autographs was the final hurdle to Jake Delhomme's return as starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, consider Wednesday morning a success.

Facing a blitz of youth campers on the last of UL's three-day Ragin' Cajun football camp, Delhomme's right elbow - the one reconstructed through Tommy John surgery last fall - held up just fine.

"This is part of the rehab program," the former Teurlings Catholic and UL star said with a laugh following an autograph and photo session that lasted nearly one hour. "The elbow passed with flying colors. I'm good."

  7. UL Football Re: Tracking the Preaux Career of Jake Delhomme

Panthers — Jake Delhomme is so frequently described as underrated that, almost by definition, he’s not. But those who say that are absolutely right about what he means to the Panthers.

Now healthy, Delhomme acts as the catalyst for an offense loaded with talent that might go nowhere without him. WR Steve Smith is the go-to guy, and newcomers D.J. Hackett and Muhsin Muhammad will keep defenses from devoting their secondary to stopping Smith. Behind a solid offensive line, rookie Jonathan Stewart could emerge as this season’s Adrian Peterson. DeAngelo Williams isn’t a shabby option, either.

    wow... stay healthy Jake!

  9. UL Football PreSeason 2008

Quarterback Jake Delhomme had a take-charge moment when he ordered the offense linemen to get down into their stances when they were standing after a busted play.

That's one of the things team officials love about Delhomme; he's clearly a leader and take-charge guy. Any of the newcomers who haven't learned that Delhomme means business will figure it out quickly.
