What's really sad is that your Vanover post was spit-out-your-dietcoke-funny

and it was lost in more Saints talk....

You think they would have gotten his home town right.

Maybe he was born in a Lafayette hospital but his home town as we all know is the Breaux Bridge home of the Crawfish Festival. Man of all the things I miss as an adult are those under 21 years going to the Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge lifting a few, now would be illegal, brews and hoping to land a little cajun girl that week end.

    Shame on you..........

  8. UL Football Delhomme: Best. Minicamp. Ever

I want to believe like these Panthers do. They broke minicamp yesterday with awfully high spirits. Even Jake Delhomme had nothing but good things to say:

"Look, you've probably heard this from a few people. But, without a doubt, this was by far the best summer camp we've ever had. The energy and enthusiasm and the new things we're doing -- and it's not just me saying it to give it window dressing. Players are saying it."

Oh, yes, this Panthers fan does so want to get that feeling again. I do so want to believe that last year was but a bad dream for this team and that this new offense can help Carolina rise up from that 8-8 misery and become a playoff contender again. Yes, I do...

Alas, my optimism is highly guarded. Everybody's undefeated in June, yes, but the playoffs aren't guaranteed to anyone in June. I still remember writing this piece for Deadspin, where I acted like the NFC title was practically a birthright. Looks silly now, doesn't it? The promise and the colossal letdown of 2006 is still fresh in my mind, and I know I'm not the only Panthers fan withholding judgment until I see this hot new offense for myself.

  9. UL Football For Delhomme it's a Matter of Pride

But Carolina didn't win that game, falling 32-29 to the New England Patriots at Houston's Reliant Stadium even though Delhomme threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns. For several minutes after that game, Delhomme stood by himself near the locker-room tunnel, watching the Patriots' post-game celebration.

  10. UL Football Re: For Delhomme it's a Matter of Pride

Three years removed from a Super Bowl appearance, Jake Delhomme remains Acadiana's football icon.

He was a high-school star just a couple of miles down a country road from where he grew up - and from where he's currently building a house.

He stayed to play at the hometown university, playing nearly every snap of a four-year career and finishing as the state's most prolific passer at that time.

He was loyal to the home-state professional franchise, one that gave him his first pro experience before cutting him - three times - and eventually giving him the chance to find overnight success with the Carolina Panthers.

Ultimately, though, Delhomme's status comes from his position. Though he doesn't covet the spotlight, he's in the sport's glamour spot. Regardless of what else is going on, everyone watches the quarterback.
