Playing different systems for Ditka and Haslett will serve Jake good learning with a third coach.

It sorta proves my point, C Deb. There are so many tangibles in making coaching decisions that the vast majority of us "experts"do not have a clue. We express opinions as if it were expertise. Personally, I voice opinions like everyone else, but it's worth would not get you a cup of hot coffee, and sure as hell not into the WCWS.
The article said "The Panthers do like his accuracy, leadership and ability to throw deep." I say what is not to like?
His teamates loved him in New Orleans, somehow we knew that, too bad he had a coach that could see none of the above.Originally posted by Turner

CARENCRO — Other than a one-year stint with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe in 1998, Jake Delhomme will be playing for a team that plays it’s home games outside of the state of Louisiana for the first time in his career this coming season.
Delhomme enjoyed an outstanding prep career at Teurlings Catholic, before rewriting many records at quarterback for Louisiana’s Ragin Cajuns from 1993-96 in college.
Most recently, Delhomme was the back-up quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, spending the last three full seasons with the boys in black and gold, and parts of two others.
This season, however, the 28-year-old Breaux Bridge native will get a chance to acheive his lifelong dream of becoming a starting quarterback in the NFL, after signing a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers during the off-season.
“It hasn’t really sunk it yet that I’ll be playing away from home,” said Delhomme, who was at Evangeline Downs Saturday for “Jake Delhomme Night.” “I’m just happy that I’ll be able to compete for a starting job.”

Delhomme to get a shot as camp opens
July 26, 2003
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Four quarterbacks will be in attendance when the Carolina Panthers open training camp. How many draft picks show up is still up in the air.
The Panthers are due to report today to Wofford College for the start of camp and three of their draft picks, including first-rounder Jordan Gross, remain unsigned.
Whether or not Gross and Co. show up before Saturday is just one mystery surrounding the start of training camp. The other is who will leave Spartanburg as the starting quarterback.
So far, the position seems to be up for grabs. Battling for the spot are incumbent Rodney Peete, free-agent addition Jake Delhomme, former starter Chris Weinke and last but not least, Randy Fasani.
"Second-team quarterback Jake Delhomme had a few nice plays and moved the offense well."

Delhomme well-preserved, brings strong arm, maturity to camp
...The four Carolina quarterbacks take turns in practice Monday as they will against the Redskins. Whoa, what's this? Somebody has dropped a pretty pass into the left corner of the end zone and the hands of Ricky Proehl. Let's find out who threw it.
Why, it's Delhomme.

QB spot still up for grabs
"I have been pleased with all four of them. I think they have all progressed from where they were last year," John Fox said. "I think Jake (Delhomme) has stepped in and definitely earned where he is on the depth chart right now.

Saturday night game against Redskins
Peete will start the game and play the first quarter, and Delhomme and Weinke will split time and likely play into the fourth quarter.
Delhomme, signed as a free agent after five years as a backup in New Orleans, is excited for his opportunity.
"I'm not nervous, there's no pressure, I'm just ready to go out there and play," Delhomme said. "It will be good to get into live situations and see exactly where I rate with this offense and see what kind of decisions I make."
