No body stops fitzgerald from getting his post route catch. Three other backs didn't even make a tackle attempt. Ike did his job.

You guys are just not going to let this go are you? Listen everybody! Ike Taylor is a former Cajun football player and that's it!!!!! He is now a Pittsburgh Steeler so who cares whether he says Swaggin, New Orleans, Louisiana or nothing at all. At the end of the day it doesnt really matter and you guys who are actually upset about this have got to find something else to do. The guy played here and gave his all to the football team while he played and during that time if you guys supported the football team you supported him by default. He WORKED to get a scholarship and to repay that debit he played his butt off for the coaches and his teammates. Yes his time here was an avenue for him to be seen but does he have to champion this every chance he gets? The answer is no. Do any of you talk about how great your first job was and recommend everybody work there because they gave you your first work experience. I doubt that many of you do. This should be a non issue. He honestly doesnt owe any of us including the university anything. I believe you guys are mad because he isn't giving the university the FREE publicity that you believe we should have. I have posted on this before and felt the need to do it again.
My Previous post form DEC 10, 2007.....

I undoubtly will get some backlash from this but i will write it anyway. I have been coming to this site for a while now since about the time Ike was drafted and i have read several poster bash him and several ppl praise him but it has gotten to the point that i had to reply.

I started at UL or USL at the same time that Ike did and he was a friend. With that being said i have first had knowledge off some of the things you guys speak of.

First off i listen to ppl say how he should speak of the school and support them but most of you problably only know what you read in the newspaper after he was drafted and when they played in the superbowl. On this very site i read where a few ppl were trying to find out who this Ivan Taylor was that was drafted from UL. Yet these are the same ppl that say how they have supported him and helped him to get where he is. That is absolutelly not true.

Ike came to this university and walk-on and was on the practice squad as a running back when he qualified academically. He did that for two years before he was actually on the field his junior year as a running back (im sure the are ppl that didnt know that either) and then because the team was lacking in cornerbacks they switched him over to that position where he started for a year. In between this time he went home EVERY summer and worked with the legendary Tom Shaw who when it came draft time he personally vouched for him and his work ethic and talked him up to several teams. When you have a man that has coached and trained numerous first round draft picks including Deion Sanders his word is very influential.

With that being said Bustle, this university nor anyone on this board got Ike to the league he made his own way. It did give him an avenue to showcase his talent and for that he gave his all everyday in practice and games until his time here was up. That is your major difference between Ike and all the others you name in the pros ( Jake, Brandon, Tillman ..etc) they were FULL scholarship players and given every opportunity to shine because the university had scholarship money invested in them. Although it would be nice if he said the name of the university on tv sometimes but he is a grown man who has left this university and this city and moved on and its his choice what he says. Besides any coach on the staff, alumni or fair weather fan can walk in any living room in america and say Ike Taylor played at University of Louisiana at Lafayette (i know thats going to get me in trouble) and no matter what he says or does that wont change. We should still root for him because the better he does the more FREE publicity the school will recieve whether he acknowledges it or not.

And his website is maintained by a marketing company so he may respond to some of the emails himself but if it is someone else its probably not his "posse" as someone wanted to say.

And on a side note D'Anthony Bastiste who plays for the Atlanta Falcons is a friend of Ike's that played here as well and we should get to know his story so we can say we have been supporting him as well because he has been starting the last few games.

Red Dog, I'm with you. I don't think Ikes's swaggin promo has anything to do with his liking or not liking UL.

When he had a chance he came back to coach the Vermilion and White game 2 years ago. He was "swaggin' before then and I agree with the poster who said we are taking it way to serious.

    I Like Ike!

    Default Fenroy After UL

I don't know if someone posted this earlier, but here's an article by Mike Detillier on Tyrel Fenroy posted earlier on Houmatoday.com

Mike Detillier Published: Monday, April 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

    Fenroy wants shot at NFL

The smaller colleges in Louisiana have always sent quality talent into the NFL. This year is no exception as Nicholls State defensive back Lardarius Webb, McNeese State wide receiver Quentin Lawrence and offensive tackle Kyle Link, Northwestern State offensive guard Tim Henderson and wide receiver Dudley Guice and UL-Lafayette wide receiver/return specialist Jason Chery, are expected to be selected in next weekend’s draft.

One player looking to prove that he has the skills to play at the next level is UL-Lafayette running back Tyrell Fenroy. Fenroy ,who I have projected to be a fifth round selection, has heard the same story every time he has made a step up that he is too small to play football.

Despite rushing for 4,320 yards and 72 touchdowns at St. Charles Catholic High School, Fenroy was passed over by every Southeastern Conference and Conference USA schools.

With the NFL draft quickly approaching the same sort of questions about his lack of size is being brought up, however, it does not bother the record breaking running back from the River Parishes.

“People have questioned my ability and my size since I started playing football and I just answer them with what I have done on the football field,” Fenroy said. “I love playing the game and it has always been my dream to play pro football. I enjoyed my time at UL-Lafayette. Maybe it was meant to be because if I had gone to a larger school, they may have not given me the chance to showcase my skills like what has happened to me at UL-Lafayette.”

The 5-foot 8 ¼-inch, 208 pound halfback is UL-Lafayette’s and the Sun Belt Conference’s all-time leader in rushing with 4,642 yards. This past season he rushed for 1,375 yards, which made him only the seventh player in NCAA history to rush for over 1,000 yards in four straight seasons.

Despite those lofty numbers, Fenroy was not invited to any post-season bowl game or the NFL Combine in February.

“I was disappointed not to get to play in any bowl game or go to the Combine workout, but I can’t control those issues. It just made me work harder to prove to the scouts and the teams that showed interest in me that I could take my game to the next level,” Fenroy said. “I look at the NFL game and there are a lot of backs that were drafted in the later rounds and some from the smaller schools that some thought weren’t big enough and they are playing in the league. It’s all about making plays when given the opportunity.”

Fenroy says that he has worked hard in the off-season to pick up weight and also to upgrade his overall game.
“Since the season ended I have picked up about eight to nine pounds of weight and worked hard to improve my overall strength. I know the NFL is a more physical league and you have to keep yourself in top condition,” Fenroy said. “It’s also just not a league that wants you to run the ball, so I catch about 100 to 125 passes a day and I have also worked hard at improving my techniques as a pass blocker. I really believe my versatility is a big plus for me. The more you can do the better shot you have to play and last in the NFL.”

Fenroy says that many scouts have asked him about returning kicks.

“I would love to return kickoffs or punts also. In high school, I returned kickoffs and I know how important that element is in the NFL also. I grew up watching Michael Lewis return kicks for the New Orleans Saints and Devin Hester with the Bears is unbelievable returning kicks,” Fenroy said. “That part of the game gets everyone excited. The fans and team respond in a great way when you have a big return or when someone brings a punt or kickoff back for a touchdown. I am confident I have the speed and running skills to excel in that area.”

At UL-Lafayette’s Pro-Day Fenroy ran a (4.47) 40-yard dash time, he posted a 38-inch vertical leap and he did 18 reps of 225 pounds, but he knows his long resume of work is what will attract a team to select him.

“The process leading up to the draft is long, but I enjoy working out and I love the game. I have worked out for a lot of teams, the New Orleans Saints included,” Fenroy said. “The one team that showed the most interest in me so for has been the Chicago Bears, but I have been told that sometimes that doesn’t mean that the team that shows the most interest will be the one to select you. I can’t wait till next weekend and for the draft process to begin. I just want an opportunity to play in the NFL.”

If Fenroy is picked next weekend, he will become the first player from St. Charles Catholic to be selected in the NFL draft.

NFL analysts Mike Detillier lives in Raceland.

I'll take that bet, I don't think his name gets called this weekend.

I'm not putting my money on Tyrells ability nor his character or work ethic. I'm putting my money on the mindset that NFL teams have and their ability to overlook quality players.

I think Tyrell will be a free agent guy, and once he signs with a team; he will be the real deal and he will flourish.

    Geaux Tyrell.

Second day pick. Likely 6th round, but some analysts give him a chance to go as high as 4th round. Of course, if he's a free agent, he can choose to go somewhere that fits his style of running.

    Default Fenroy prediction

I'm predicting Saints in 7th. If not, Saints sign him as Free-Agent.

i would agree with the 7th round pick, since the saints have been known to go for sleepers late, but with them only having 4 picks total. im thinking undrafted. unless someone else takes him. the bears have a lot of picks. but i want him in NO
