Thread: Tracking the Preaux Career of Ike Taylor

This leads me to ask a question. Which one of our pro players are the most likely to come back and help UL after their playing days? I would think Delhomme, Stokley and Charles Tilman. You think Brandon has any hard feelings about UL since they fired his daddy? They did let Nelson continue coaching when everyone was calling for his head so he could finish coaching Brandon. I just would like a Terry Bradshaw type player to pimp UL like Terry does for LATECH. I could see Jake doing it.

What people don't realize is how popular these guys (ex UL pros) are in their cities of employment----Augie T (a ST. Farm agent in NCar) said it was unreal what Jake's popularity was--just think --He was Drew Brees---How about Ron Guidry in NY???? Oh they are well known and respected here bu tnot worshiped!!!!

Jake will definitely come back because he is from here to begin with and maintains a home in Breaux Bridge next door to his parents. I think Brandon will also end up back here.

I would suspect Jake will include helping UL in his retirement activities once that happens.

Not exactly accurate. Notice that he uses IN

Now do I wish he'd do more to give UL props? You bet. But to say he does not acknowledge were he came from is not true.

    From facemeike.com http://home.facemeike.com/about/

    College Career
Taylor attended college at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette where he studied in psychology. In his first two years, he became academically ineligible and was unable to play football. After hard work, help, and commitment he brought his grades up and joined the football team as a walk on in 2001. This achievement earned him a scholarship. In his first season, he played tailback, special teams and returned kicks.

Prior to his senior season, Taylor asked to be moved to cornerback. He started the season at the right cornerback spot and recorded 46 tackles, eight passes defensed and two forced fumbles. In four games, he didn’t allow an opponent to catch a ball. Among his college teammates was Charles Tillman who was drafted by the Chicago Bears.

When I said does not acknowledge, I meant verbally...as when he introduces himself...and sometimes when he gives an interview.

It's too bad when Rome mentioned that he went to the University of Louisiana Lafayette, it's too bad that Ike didn't say something like "Yeah, I also played with Charles Tillman of the Bears. And Delhomme and Stokely both played there. It's a great university and some really good players have come from UL", or something to that effect. Other players from big time programs seem to always tout their schools. Is it too much to ask our former players to do the same for UL? On the other hand, maybe Ike's experience at UL was not to his liking, so he says nothing rather than rip the school. I don't know, but to use Swaggin' University, to me, is an insult to UL. JMO.

You may be right but that doesn't match my personal experience.

I never heard "Ike" used on the sidelines or at practice ( and he was a loud mouth) you could not go to a practice and not be aware of Ivan.

"Ike" was also never used in any of the newspaper articles of 2002 or leading up to the draft, or when his name was called in the draft. I never heard "Ike" used until just after the draft.

Still I trust you know what you know. I was just out of the "Ike" Loop.

    Default Championship Sunday.

Who you pulling for and why?
    Packers vs. Bears
That is an easy one for me the Bears since they have Charles Tillman.
    Jets vs. Pittsburgh
I'm pulling for the Jets. I know Pittsburgh has Ike "Swaggin" but the guy doesn't give us any credit and Pittsburgh has won too many Super Bowls.

Understand what you are saying about Taylor, but on the other hand if its a Bears vs Steelers Super Bowl, Hud will be guaranteed to have two more alums who are Super Bowl participants as well as one more with a ring to point out to recruits. So I'm pulling for Bears and Steelers.
