Thread: Which Lineup do you prefer...

UL Basketball Which Lineup do you prefer...

This is something I've been thinking about.

Would you prefer a shooting point guard who can make the defense forget about the other shooters(Randell Daigle) or a passive pg who only can give you limited scoring but will lead the team in assist(Ryan McCoy)?

And last is do you rather 3 g/f who can do it all (6'7 Travis Burrow,6'7 Chris Gradnigo,6'7 La'Ryan Gary) as your starters or a true power forward to go with Big Jeremy Barr?

PG - McCoy, let Daigle be a spark off the bench
    G - Bureau
    G - Gradnigo
    F - Johnson
    C - Barr

I would rather the Cajuns start a 3 g/f like Burreau or Gradnigo who can get up and down the court, shoot the ball, and put pressure to start the game with a burst of speed and points. Under Evans we used to start off with a bang and then have a tendency to fade some times, but I think that Coach Lee does a great job of keeping steady and pushing forward consistently during a game. I like having a bigger guy come in, post up, score, keep the Cajuns score creeping up while the high fliers get a rest. jmho

It's nice to have the depth to be able to pick a lineup that matches up better with each opponent!!

I think Daigle and Mccoy will probably end up with equal minutes and in some situations I would like to see them both on the court at the same time. That being said before Lee would make Mccoy the starter over Daigle I hope he thinks about how that would effect Randell. Daigle came in his first season and quickly became the top guy at PG, and acctually lead the entire team in minutes played last year. Now I know nothing about Randell's Psyche but going from being the starter to coming off the bench will effect some guys and some guys it won't.

At 2-3-4 I think it should be Bureau, Gradnigo, and Johnson with Gary the 6th man who could come in in any of those slots, and of course after the first few games Roberson will be in the mix there as well.

After he becomes eligible I would to see Adeife and Barr both in the post at the same time as well.

I have to agree with REDBUG. Change the lineup to match the opposing team. Mix and match lineups through out the game. Also, if you play 23 to 24 minutes, so what if you don't start.

All of the guys that were mentioned in the paper are doing better. The big men will be out the longest and they are a little worried about Courtney's shoulder more than ever.

I just don't get how some people would prefer Ryan McCoy over Randell Daigle. Nobody in the general public has seen this kid play. Randell is a proven starter and was key in winning a lot of games for us last season. My god, what have you done for me lately sure doesn't go with UL. He was rated higher than Randell in Highschool, but rankings are not accurate.

Randell to me can and will be the opening day starter. Ryan is banged up right now so Radar is getting more looks. As of right now Jeremy Barr is the only starter, because nobody in practice can guard this big SOB.

Lee needs to hurry up and choose a lineup for the team and start establishing roles for players. This team does not have the chemistry that 9 returning lettermen would have. These new players are throwing a bone in the lineup and they need time to establish who is gonna play and who is gonna be a role player and who will be passing out cups of fresh H2O behind the bench.

I put McCoy in because the thing I believe we have lacked is a solid floor captain. I love Daigle as a scorer and would also like to see him get time as a 2 guard so he can concentrate just on scoring. He would be a huge spark off the bench and honestly it doesn't matter who the starter is because both guys will get a lot of PT.

I think that if last year is any indication of this year, then a starting lineup is meaningless since you will see it change by game, situation and how each player is playing at a given time. With our balance and depth, I don't think it will matter because Gradnigo is going to see the floor probably the most of anybody. After that, Lee will have people in depending on situation. Now, Gradnigo and Barr IMO are the only two who are locks to start. I like having a PG who distributes the ball, doesn't turn it over and looks to pass before shoot and is quick enough to defend the ball down the court. I believe Daigle is a very good player and I have no problem with him at point but I just think that he is a natural #2 although a small one at this level. I believe you will see him play both positions quite a bit but I would have no problem seeing either one of the following lineups and feel we can expect to see them.

    McCoy
    Daigle
    Gradnigo
    Roberson or T. Johnson
    Barr

    or

    McCoy
    Bureau
    Gradnigo
    C. Wallace
    Barr

    or

    Daigle
    Bureau
    Gradnigo
    T.Johnson
    Barr

First of all, the starting lineup will likely change quite a bit at least in the first 2 months or so to find a chemistry and efficient lineup so I wouldn't expect anything in concrete quickly.

Second, take it easy there bud. We are only looking at McCoy assuming he is as good as he's supposed to be. Daigle is playing a little out of position at the #1 as he is a pure shooting guard. While he played fine last year, he turned the ball over a lot and his assist/turnover ratio was not great by any means. He is short and had trouble with the bigger guards on offense and D because he couldn't see over them and had to do a lot of dribbling with his back to his man. We are excluding injury at this time but I would like a guy who is a floor general out there and wants to get the ball to his immediate scorers like Daigle, Gradnigo, Bureau etc.., not turn it over and play D on the point. I have no problems with Daigle its just I think he's much more comfortable at the 2. Lee shuffled Barksdale and Lago last year because he was trying to get Daigle in at the shooting guard but they sucked big time. We need McCoy for any other reason than as quality backup
