Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns head men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Wednesday the addition of junior college product Jay Wright to the 2014-15 roster._
Former Effingham County point guard Jay Wright signed a letter of intent this week to play for Louisiana of the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference.
Wright joins the Ragin’ Cajuns after a year of junior college at Casper College in Wyoming.
The 6-foot-1 Wright averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists and was named the North Conference Player of the Year last season.
“Jay is a quality person who gives us an experienced point guard in the backcourt,” Louisiana coach Bob Marlin said on the school’s website. “He is athletic, a good defender and has the ability to get in the paint on the offensive side of the ball. He also has three years to play and we are excited to have him on our team ... he is all about winning.”
I think we will too and this is where Marlin will earn his keep. Playing more guys is often detrimental to team chemistry, especially with a team filled with new guys. It could take them some time to get going early in the season and I wouldn't doubt if Marlin was to trim that rotation down to around 8 or possibly 9 in conference and the later part of the season.
If I read anyone complaining that we have too many good players and some might not play......I will drive to LA and find you!
At least with the return of UL to basketball glory, we will not have to worry about these solid guys breaking the law, ie Evans era!
