I can see all the ESPN commentators talking about how the Cajuns did so well to earn such a high seeding and of course of how exciting the potential rematch would be... Mannnn I hope this doesn't happen

The two losses by McNeese will almost assuredly drop them into the third RPI bonus tier ... dropping the Cajuns' RPI bonus .0007 (.0021 to .0014).

A recap from yesterday's post ... the fluctuation of RPI bonuses.

Presently, the Cajuns are still holding at an RPI bonus of .00244. This has not changed in the last several weeks. However, there are some teams that are close to the boundary tiers.

All RPI rankings are official rankings from the 5/4 RPI reports.

Michigan was #21 in Base RPI entering the week. This is good for a .0028 bonus. But if Michigan falls out of the Base RPI Top 25, it will cost the Cajuns .0007 in RPI bonus. Michigan is 2-1 this week with wins over #64 Illinois and #38 Wisconsin ... and a loss to #17 Minnesota.

It looks like #47 McNeese State will fall out of the Top 50, costing the Cajuns .0007 RPI bonus points. This week they have defeated #215 Houston Baptist and #178 Stephen F. Austin ... while losing to #160 Northwestern State and trailing #160 Northwestern State again this morning, 9-0 T5th. Northwestern State may be coming to Lafayette as a #4 seed.

#64 Illinois State lost to #163 Loyola-Chicago this week. They probably hold the Top 75, but it is not a certainty. Falling out of the Top 75 would cost the Cajuns .0014 in RPI bonus points.

#81 Chattanooga went 4-0 this week in winning the Southern Conference Tournament. Wins came over #157 Appalachian State, #88 Furman , #110 Samford (38-18), and #150 UNC-Greensboro (27-24). Chattanooga has a real shot to enter the RPI Top 75, adding .0014 RPI bonus points for the Cajuns.

#83 Rutgers went 1-1 this week with a nice win over #43 Houston and a loss to #26 UCF. Rutgers moving into the RPI Top 75 would net the Cajuns .0014 RPI bonus points.

You mean ... Louisiana (#7 National Seed) ... #8 at worst.

Unless there is a large glut of bad teams winning auto bids, Northwestern State will not be a #3 seed. Northwestern State is probably the #4 seed in Lafayette.

But I do have a new reason to feed your paranoia ... "We had Louisiana at #8 and Oklahoma at #9 ... but we felt it was not a good idea to send OU to Lafayette for a second time this season ... so we swapped the seeds and Louisiana goes to Norman. It's only fair, right?".

That's what I've been saying all along

It's fair when they want it to be fair. Remember UL crushed Arizona State out on the west coast early in 2012 yet still got sent out there for the Super Regional

And according to the selection criteria used (and still in use) ... Arizona State was a high national seed in 2012. The Cajuns simply were not in the running. I do think the Cajuns should have been seeded a couple of spots higher ... but not a national seed.

Yea, but Scott was very comfortable with the seeding we got. He is very comfortable in the SBC. It seems Scott wants his career to be in the comfort zone.

That bad, but comfortable seeding, even the day we got it said LSU had an easier road because of ASU. It worked out that way. No doubt we should have been seeded a couple notches better.

Texas at Baylor just starting on the Longhorn Network. Channel 1309 on Cox Hd, and 309 digital.

Do you still have the numbers for 2012?

You have mentioned it is better to look at the numbers than the ranking. I was wondering what the gap was between #8 RPI and #12 RPI numbers wise.

ps Just wondering if an undefeated 2012 Team USA (playing UL's schedule) could have achieved their "highly justified" #1 overall Reality Personified Index ranking.

The numbers are still available if you want to do the checking.

Louisiana had an Adjusted RPI of .65975 at selection time in 2012 (#12 Adjusted RPI ranking). #8 Texas A&M was rather distant at .67702 (a difference of .01727).

Yea I feel like an 11 or 12 should have been the range. UL played very very well in the early season tournaments and they essentially were not rewarded for it. The loss in the Conference Tournament should not have held them back as it seemed to have.
