2008 UL celebrates with "Savoie fair" WE ARE LOUISIANA

  The University of Louisiana will celebrate homecoming like never before with the inauguration of its sixth president, alumnus Joseph Savoie, on Oct. 30.

The all-day affair includes a "We Are Louisiana" community celebration at 6 p.m. at the Cajundome Convention Center.

The event will feature Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Grammy-award winner Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience, Rockin' Dopsie Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters, Irma Thomas, The Molly Ringwalds and special guest Michael Doucet.

Joseph Savoie letter to the media

  I am writing to express my deep appreciation for the tremendous amount of community involvement and support during last week's homecoming celebrations, which included inaugural activities, at the University of Louisiana.

It was a great week for the people of Lafayette, Acadiana and Louisiana to come together in celebration of our fine university. The theme "We are Louisiana" was certainly very appropriate for the festivities.

Our region is blessed with a very rich culture and strong family bonds. This is a special place, and our university provides us a focal point to come together and share our pride.

Last week's activities concluded with a resounding homecoming football game witnessed by a record number of enthusiastic fans. Our fans add so much to the success of our teams. The football team is now in sole lead of the Sun Belt Conference, and the rest of the season promises to be very exciting.

I hope that you will join us once again at Cajun Field this Saturday to cheer the Cajuns on as they host the University of Texas at El Paso.
