Thread: New Orleans VooDoo in Lafayette?

  1. Default New Orleans VooDoo in Lafayette?

It was unfortunately released that the New Orleans VooDoo will cease operations via Tom Benson.

Would it be that impossible to get an arena football team in the CajunDome?

I believe it is big enough. Lake Charles plays in the civic center there.
To me it would make sense if it could happen. I would think that it could really bring some money into the city. A professional team in Lafayette. Another step in the right direction.

We had a team in the AF2. It won like 1-2 games and folded due to too many people dressed as empty seats.

The one Indoor football game I went to was the worst football experience of my life. It was terrible. Left in the 3rd quarter.

They shot themselves in both feet before they ever played a game with that Mardi Gras float in the Independent Parade.

Their's a big difference between the AFL and the AF2....No kids out of high school playing in the AFL....I remember a kid by the name of Parish from New Ibera kicking for Lafayette out of high school. He tried out for the team and made it. He had a pretty good leg, but nothing like what they have in the AFL.....

They got Lafayette Mardi Gras confused with New Orleans Mardi Gras.

Their float had some pretty vulgar music blasting to go with brass pole-worthy dancing by their dance team and requests from the men on the float for ladies in the crowds to earn their beads big easy style. I've heard that Lafayette Mardi Gras has been trending that way in the last couple of years, but six years ago, this was a big no-no in Lafayette and it went over like a lead balloon.

Considering that their primary market was going to be families, the negative publicity doomed them before they even played a game. The poor product on the field nailed the coffin shut.

I've never seen anything like that float at a New Orleans Mardi Gras. Occasionally, I've seen (mainly tipsy) float riders try to coax "ladies" with fancy beads but it isn't institutionalized or the norm for parades, especially along St Charles Ave. and in the downtown area where crowds are made up almost exclusively of families. It's always been my opinion that most of the people exposing themsleves at Mardi Gras are out of towners and do things they wouldn't do back at home.

I wouldn't say institutionalized, but I would say readily accepted.

I always wondered why the Roughnecks were such a flop. I was there for there first game. I only went to two Voodoo games. Cool logo but I couldn't get into them.

I believe the CAJUNDOME would not have enough seating for the AFL. I think the minimum seating for that league is 17-18,000. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
