This tutorship you think happens isn't happening. Bailey wants to start...not babysit. I'm sure you think the Jets signed Michael Vick to teach Geno Smith the finer points of being a dual threat quarterback. Once again...you fail to look at the reality of the situation and think everything is puppy dogs and rainbows.
I think he can pass on a few tricks of the trade, but I agree, the whole "veteran player/coach" thing gets way overhyped by fans. We signed him to play. He's not a #1 anymore by a long shot, but I think he can be successful to a degree as a #2/nickel corner. Not expecting him to be an All Pro, but he can be a decent starter. He's not costing much at all and he's at least as good as the street free agents we had at the end of last year as a necessity due to injury.

That's a realistic view of the situation.

It wasn't "puppy dogs and rainbows"... it had more of a "good loyal mutt and a partly cloudy with a few rays of sunshine" feel to it.

They will see how he works, see how he practices, see how he breaks down film. If the young wants to learn, he will. You hear veteran teaching young and think he is in front of the class asking questions. Young guys including Lewis will learn just from him being there. Bailey wants a ring, it's not all about the money, we signed him for a sack of oysters and year free worth of jimmy johns. It's nothing about being a homer, if you think the guys around Jared Allen won't learn from him just bring around him, you are wrong. The guys on the OL across from him will learn from him too. Wanna talk typical? You watch a couple episodes of hard knocks and now you are an nfl veteran. I learn from people all the time, doesn't mean they are going out of their way to teach me.
You see the NFL as Friday Night Lights...buddy it ain't like that. It's....work. And each and every one of us that has worked a real job know that there are times when it pays to come in...do your job...and go home. We gain nothing from helping people in our same position to better themselves other than to give them an advantage over us. It's not being insecure...it's being a realist.

No you are insecure, I'm confident in the fact I can teach people what I know but they won't replace me. You can know what I know but I will always be better. The fact that I'm willing to share knowledge will always make me better than the insecure, jealous hater. You have actually proven how insecure you are numerous times on here. Teams would never bring in veterans if there wasn't a consolation prize of leadership and work ethic that rubs off on those around them. It's obvious Bailey's best playing days are behind him.

Hawk, in many industries now... we are paying veterans strictly to teach the "up and coming" their veteran skills and knowledge. You are speaking from a position that you are currently in. And that position has been prevasive in the U.S. for a couple of decades. There is a massive amount of reflection (especially at the large corporate level) that the lack of specifically hiring and/or retaining veterans for the sole purpose of transferring their skills and knowledge to the up and coming... has destroyed a generation and a half of our work force. Many are in a correction mode.

The position you're talking about is still going to exist in large part... but to say there isn't a massive push to transfer veteran knowledge and skills directly in the work units (that you would say are all competing for the same employment) is absolutely false. When you reward people more for the measurable transfer of knowledge and skills to their less skilled associates, higher than you would their direct application of those skills, they do not hoard their abilities. Some people actually get the fact that you could do without them in the direct application far above the need you have to use them as a mentor.

"Departmental Accounting" probably isn't a good example of how the rest of the world operates.

They will pick up another corner in the draft. Brees is in desperate need of a guy like cooks. Defenses will be terrified of this offense! He is the missing piece they needed. Theres a reason they traded up.....payton made SURE they didnt lose him to someone else! Our defense will be fine.
Because he graded out as a 2nd round pick. College awards mean dick in the NFL. I watched 3 Oregon St games last year and he struck me as a situational slot guy.

The guy is Tayvon Austin. Remember the guy that was a Homerun hitter, steal of the draft? How'd that work out..
