Thread: Local broadcasts under old assumptions

The Sun Belt is not telling Dan McDonald he can't say "Louisiana Lafayette." Dan is choosing this. I understand if he can't say "Louisiana." But "U L Lafayette" is a slap in the face. I want to let him know it, too. Very disrespectful.

How do I know he knows how important this is to us? Go to espn3.com and watch him say "Louisiana" for more than 3 hours.

This, and that "he" and his (Karl Benson) would honor that request.

The SBC name guidelines had UL Monroe and UL Lafayette. If you think they're not still using this, I think you're mistaken. The SBC basketball broadcasters followed this as well. Same way they still use UL-L on SBC broadcasts in the bottom corner for the score.

If Dan was personally making this call and was instructed that he could use whatever, then I'd have a problem. Karl Benson can say that he'll support what we use, but that is all talk and he's not the one giving instructions on what to call teams on an softball tournament broadcast. They have communications directors and others that give those instructions

I'm not talking about the Sun Belt. I'm talking about Dan McDonald. The Dan McDonald that is at almost every home baseball game, acting as official scorer. The Dan McDonald that broadcasts games locally here, knows our fight, and says "Louisiana" on KLAF.

If Dan said "Louisiana Lafayette" all weekend, there would be no ruffled feathers in the conference.

    That's just a fact.

Dan sells us out with every "U L Lafayette" reference. He's disingenuous with every "Louisiana" reference on KLAF. It's disrespectful.

    Period.

And if he's being told to use "UL Lafayette" which apparently was our preference over "Louisiana-Lafayette" on the name thing, then why would he use the latter? When he's on KLAF, there are clearly no conference guidelines to follow

I can pretty much guarantee that did not happen.

I can also pretty much guarantee Dan is afraid to push the envelope and is working on an autopilot program based on old history.

Well, I'd like to ask him. How can I email him?

That may very well be the case, but I dont think that makes him public enemy #1. The outrage is ridiculous

I give Dan the benefit of the doubt when he writes for the NOLA paper or the NOLA website or the Advocate or ...

When he is verbalizing, not so much. We have already seen what announcers can do on the ESPN3's SBC game of the week. It is up to the announcer.

Our fearless S-B@C leader defends this by insisting this is what T-Joe wants.
