The Sun Belt is not telling Dan McDonald he can't say "Louisiana Lafayette." Dan is choosing this. I understand if he can't say "Louisiana." But "U L Lafayette" is a slap in the face. I want to let him know it, too. Very disrespectful.
How do I know he knows how important this is to us? Go to espn3.com and watch him say "Louisiana" for more than 3 hours.
The SBC name guidelines had UL Monroe and UL Lafayette. If you think they're not still using this, I think you're mistaken. The SBC basketball broadcasters followed this as well. Same way they still use UL-L on SBC broadcasts in the bottom corner for the score.
If Dan was personally making this call and was instructed that he could use whatever, then I'd have a problem. Karl Benson can say that he'll support what we use, but that is all talk and he's not the one giving instructions on what to call teams on an softball tournament broadcast. They have communications directors and others that give those instructions
I'm not talking about the Sun Belt. I'm talking about Dan McDonald. The Dan McDonald that is at almost every home baseball game, acting as official scorer. The Dan McDonald that broadcasts games locally here, knows our fight, and says "Louisiana" on KLAF.
If Dan said "Louisiana Lafayette" all weekend, there would be no ruffled feathers in the conference.
That's just a fact.
Dan sells us out with every "U L Lafayette" reference. He's disingenuous with every "Louisiana" reference on KLAF. It's disrespectful.
Period.
