Thread: Charles "Peanut" Tillman: Preaux Career

  1. People Tillman named Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornerback Charles Tillman has been named the Bears nominee for the 2008 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The prestigious award is the only NFL award that recognizes a player’s off-the-field community service, support and activities as well as his playing excellence.

The award has been in existence since 1970 and honors NFL players who demonstrate outstanding balance in their lives between civic and professional responsibilities. In 1999, the league renamed the Man of the Year award after Walter Payton as a tribute to his greatness both on and off the field.

Cornerback Charles Tillman, a 2003 second-round pick, is in his sixth season with the Bears.

I am proud to say that Tillman was a Ragin Cajun. This is exactly what pro athletes should act like. Tillman is a role model for all.

Wow! What a great role model! I have always been impressed by Charles. The way he carries himself, his positive attitude, his work ethic, his off-field character. I think he has it all. He also is a positive representative of the university. I really hope he receives this great honor. Obviously, to be the Bears' nominee says quite a lot. My son lived in the Conference Center when Tillman was at UL and saw him often. He had nothing but good things to say about "Peanut".

  5. People Charles Tillman humbly accepts award on daughter Tiana's behalf

DES PLAINES, Ill. – In accepting the prestigious Ed Block Courage Award at a luncheon at Maryville Academy Tuesday, Charles Tillman humbly conceded that his young daughter is the one who really deserves the honor.

Tiana Tillman, who was born last February, received a heart transplant that saved her life last summer. She suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, which causes the heart to weaken and enlarge, disabling the heart's pumping system. It’s a condition that affects roughly 1 in 100,000 children in the United States.

  11. UL Football Charles Tillman's Shoulders on the Mend

The plan is for the Bears to have everyone ready for training camp, which begins six weeks from today. But five months removed from reconstructive shoulder surgery, cornerback Charles Tillman didn't close out the offseason program Wednesday.

Will he be fully ready for the rigors of training camp coming off his second shoulder surgery in four offseasons?

''I think so,'' Tillman said. ''I hope so. I keep my fingers crossed.''

There are questions in the secondary, but they have focused on whether Nathan Vasher will rebound at the other cornerback spot and how things will shake out at safety. Tillman, arguably the Bears' most valuable defender when healthy, is expected to be a sure thing again.

  12. Default Former UL star out for Bears

The Chicago Bears' team Web site has reported that cornerback Charles Tillman is out "indefinitely after undergoing a procedure to remove a piece of disc fragment from his lower back two weeks ago."

The 2003 second-round draft pick from UL is tied for 14th in team history with 20 career interceptions.

"I'll be fine for the season," Tillman, 28, told chicagobears.com. "There's no need to panic. When I panic, then you can panic. But I'm not panicking, so we're good.
