South Louisiana PublsihingLOUISIANA La. — After Saturday’s Louisiana-Florida International contest, Ragin’ Cajun pitcher Jordy Templet said it’s much easier to pitch when your team’s got the lead.
He made sure the Cajuns wouldn’t have to battle from behind early, and Corey Coles gave Templet all the room he needed before the hosts even had an out in the first inning.
Coles’ two-run double set the early tone, and the Cajuns followed Templet’s complete-game shutout and flawless defense in taking a 4-0 victory over the Sun Belt-leading Golden Panthers in the middle game of their three-game weekend series.
“This should give us some momentum going into tomorrow,” said Templet after Louisiana (16-25, 7-7) evened the series at one win apiece, “since we need to take this series.”
The rubber game is set for noon today at Moore Field, and Templet (5-3) looked strong enough at the end of Saturday’s win to keep throwing in the finale. The junior right-hander retired seven of the final eight batters and scattered eight hits in his second shutout of the season.
